This is from the perspective of 100% IS pug, I will describe MY OPINION from start to finish, both attack and defend.

The start-

The real question is... where to start? The map gives no indication of what is needed and where, other than activity is possible at a certain location. There is no faction chat, no possible way to see who is loading on a planet to attack or defend. You might sit on a planet for 15 min. and leave just as the last person needed joins, or sit on a planet no one has been on for hours, you just don't know.

Ok so you start a match, you got lucky. You selected defend but you are attacking... counter attacking. The Mechs you selected for a solid defense will now be a liability for your team that is attacking. Same goes true for attack when you have to defend. Make it one or the other and make it clear from the start.

Lets start with attacking. The gates are a joke. They serve no purpose. All the gates open or just one, no big deal. They just point to the choke points where the defenders are setting up. The ice map vs caustic... Ice map is hard to attack, you have to blow a hole in the enemy or get them to fully commit to the other gate to attack the gun, caustic is a straight up zerg charge. Now to be 100% honest premades own attacking vs. pug defenders. It's no contest. Pug on pug its fun and can go either way, pug vs. premade... I try to get some points but thats about it. There needs to be some form of front line to defend, the gates aren't it. Have one gate and a point where lights can jumpjet over but more than one gate is silly when the gates are so close and on caustic they pretty much just make it impossible to defend against a fast enemy.

Defending is interesting, it can be easy or impossible. Strange huh. A premade zerg attack is almost 100% impossible to stop on caustic, you can manage on the ice map with good aim and enough big guns. Just stopped a big clan rush a few min ago by just shooting the backs of the zerg. Caustic is lame, the gates are far to close to the base to mount a proper defense and the turrets are of no help.

Drop ships... I don't get them... they do not attack the mechs camping the spawn but hit the mechs all the way at the other end of the map. I was taken from full armor to 90% by a dropship at the other end of the map. Hard to say how they should work as they land right next to the guns and should not be able to stop a attack that is going well but they should defend the mechs getting off.

I feel the entire action is missing something. There needs to be other units involved, like tanks and timed air strikes or something. That big gun should be able to target on the level. It just seems .... empty. It's very much a rinse and repeat. While this is a step in the right direction it is very much a baby step. There is much to do here before you pop the cork on the campaign.

Clan vs. IS = Mixed houses/clans as everyone battles for control of the Inner Sphere.

House vs House/Clan vs Clan = Only mechs of the attacking/defending faction will can participate.

I defend against a Steiner attack on a planet one round then I am in a mixed Steiner group attacking a clan planet the next round... just seems off.
