I really hope this isn't an energy shield.
It would be best if it was just a big armored cover you need to burn through before you can damage the actual shield.
Or if you need to have a separate device for it, say that its the Cooling system and that the emergency vents need to open the Generator to keep it from Overheating after the cooling system is compromised.

I thought there weren't any deflector shields in battletech. I know the spacecraft don't have them, and I found it to be a rather unique part of lore, since most sci-fi series did have shields (SBY doesn't either). So yeah, I'm pretty much hoping too it's not an energy shield.

I don't recall anything like shields in MW lore. What would make more sense is making 2 or 3 generators instead of simply one, which would enhance the gameplay much more than introducing new ideas that have no place in BT lore.

They do, but it is VERY rare. I believe it is Star League Tech and the only working ones in the current timeline are installed at arenas at Solaris to protect the crowd.
I can only find this link on Sarna, so cant back up what I've just said, but I'm sure its right.

Not sure if the arena grid is mentioned in any source book but it's described in the novel Warrior: En Garde as a mesh and not an energy shield.

The Contessa smiled and turned to look out the massive window. Below, in a sandy, open arena reminiscent of the coliseums of ancient Rome, a trio of medium 'Mechs battled twice their number of more agile, lighter 'Mechs. Nearly invisible and impossibly delicate, a crisscrossed cage of wires surrounded the arena, separating the killing area from the glassed-in spectator galleries and, above them, the luxury boxes.
The Contessa pointed to the wire mesh. "What is that?"
Noton, sitting back as the drink spread its warmth through his body, knit his brows in concentration. "That is a detonator grid. Any missiles flying from the arena will hit it before they hit the spectator windows. The windows are covered with the same sort of high-impact plastic used in 'Mech canopies, but no one wants to take any chances."
"What about lasers or PPC shots?"
"The grid will siphon off PPC energy. The windows themselves are reflective." Gray laughed and leaned forward. "I remember once using the window to bounce off a shot at a foe's weakened aft armor." He nodded toward the arena. "There can actually be a 'home field advantage' for a warrior who fights regularly in one arena."
