i'll agree that these people who leaked the videos should not have done so. however you can't be taking such a stance with the fans, who are dying just to know more. and from what i have seen the game looks great and you should not be worrying about damage you are not employed by pgi.

Yeah, just like with Diablo 3 and all the people that whined about how the game was going to suck just because of how the beta went. Oh wait, that game did suck.

Are you saying that by Boycotting EA/Bioware and not buying D3, I actually saved money to invest in a GOOD BT/MW PC Game ?!?

Things that bug me about the beta videos I have seen:
  • Thermal seems to only 'light up' BattleMechs that are actively fighting and generating heat. Now on the face that sound logical, but really, BattleMechs are made of metal, metal holds much more heat than many other materials, also even though they are "cold" fusion reactors, they would still be generating more-than-ambient-atmospheric-temperatures on livable worlds. (Probably will not be changed for "balance")
  • Walking animations. The arms seem to 'bounce' with the steps. This looks far too organic and not mechanical. (Re-animate every BattleMech? No freakin way; just try to ignore it)
  • Side-torso destruction does not dismember attached arms. Son, I am disappoint. (Probably will not be changed for "balance")
  • Jump Jets causing leg damage. Do *what*?! I know they did this in MW2 (never fooled much with JJs in the others), but you had to fall a looooooooooong way to get hit with it. I get the idea, you want to promote decision making (distance/height versus taking damage) and increase the skill cap (I am still hoping for directional jump jets...), but I think you went a little overboard; drops that do not seem that far at all looked like they caused leg damage, maybe not much, but it is still a little lame. I also agree that what damage is taken should be taken by the internals of the leg, and not the armour, but this might be due to using the same game-mechanics for falling onto ground as doing a DFA (which might actually be the *real* reason for falling damage when landing on ground).
  • More constant torso-twist sound effects. Joy.
  • For the love of Kerensky give me HTAL displays. The 'wire frame' is nice and all (aside from not varying with the targeted chassis), but HTAL is where it is at, baby.
  • Lack of negative effects when heat rises. No slowing (per TT), no targeting difficulty (per TT), just an apparently mysterious (and high?) chance to explode your ammo, but only if you override? Bleh. I had very high hopes that this game would actually do heat management correctly; I suppose I was just setting up myself for disappointment. Incoming laser boats (especially since armour is doubled and ammo/ton is not).
Things I liked about the Beta videos I have seen:
  • Thermal imaging?! SERIOUSLY?! About damned time we get non-visible light spectrums!
  • From inside the cockpit the walking animation is pretty awesome with the bobbing up and down (should sway side-to-side a bit as mentioned in another thread but meh, I’m pretty happy with it now). I didn’t pay attention to see if there was any tilt when running quickly and turning; I hope there is.
  • Weapons sound effects are pretty awesome. I love how Pulse Lasers sound when they are flying by your head. The AC/20 does not sound as thunderous (except when hitting you) as I think it should, but lasers and missiles sound great! So is the thud-thud-thud of the Mech Walk. Mmmm.
  • The whole game is quite shiny; probably too shiny for my computer. I love the glowing molten effects when BattleMechs take damage; I’ll probably have to turn off said effect for the game to even be playable. =(
I know my complaints list is larger, but it is far easier to find fault and things I would like to see improved than to extol the virtues already present. Suffice it to say I am very, very eagerly awaiting Aug. 7th.

Remember... Not finished... They're probably working on a lot of this, except the constant noises of torso twisting, I hate that ****, please make it optional devs!

The game wasn't all bad... I had about a month of fun with it until the 1.03 patch. So far I've made $220 profit and I think I can easily bump that up if I play every now and then. Not that I would play to get paid.... I think in about 6 months of patches it will be fun again.

It also paid for this nice orange tag over here ;)


Oh and we don't need anymore threads on this topic.... there's a reason they keep getting deleted by the mods.
