The best game I have ever had with my 8SPL firestarter was on alpine. Also, the best game I ever had with a splat cat was there too. /shrug

I don't mind it much. Like every other match, it mostly comes down to whether your team won the pug lottery or theirs did.

I agree with whomever said river city assault is the worst.

And for what it's worth, the map I most bitterly despise is the damn bog. Anything slow/without jumpjets and what kills me every time there is the terrain. Getting stuck on something backing up, or trying to step over a damn root and getting stuck, or getting stuck trying to climb the damn stairs to the high ground at C4ish, when the red team comes spilling around the corner.... I seriously lack the words to describe my loathing of that map.

It would be so much better if we could tag our mech builds to the evironment we were going to use them in. Like the Brits giving thier troops shorts and sun hats in North Africa during WW2. Make it like the game mode selection only individually with eack mech...let us decide what environment we fight in.

map is fine, not the maps fault everyone fights over two grids.

if one side doesn't go near it then the team that stays on it can't shoot you...simple's..

They used the same weapons regardless of whether it was africa, europe or far east.

At no point was I don't like this lee enfield rifle its no good for street fighting/hasn't got the range, a legitimate excuse for not using it.

what people are saying that want a map filter, is that they are not good enough players to adapt and play intelligently

Alpine is by far my favorite. Its HUGE, it just needs Big Derp Candy Mountain removed and the rest of the map needs to be playable in its own way. Alpine is a good objective based map.

All fighting is done above the valleys and there are vey few chokepoints for non jj mechs to get up there.

We dont hold the radio tower, we push past to the ridge right next to thier base. They nearly always panic and leave candy mountain, or lose the ranged game to our better spread out gun line.
Also when they inevitably send a few mechs down to flank I keep an eye out for it and crush them. It just works :)

I like Alpine... its just asymmetrical and for both attack base/spawn modes, either side is screwed if they do not take the high ground. What would make this and most every other map much better is a randomized Team A only attacks, B only defends variable. It does not require a different game maps or player queue, just a setting of difference victory conditions per round. Frankly, I do not understand why PGI doesn't have this basic concept yet...... MW4 reused many maps for different missions and game modes. Is there a CryEngine III map problem preventing this?

All the maps are playable. Hundreds of people play them everyday.
That doesn't stop them from being bad.

Yes, that and Caustic are probably my 2 least favorite and go figure, those 2 are number 1 and 2 on my most played list.....go figure...

Just played a great match where we got the high spawn but didn't take the mountain but instead circled down and flanked the enemy as they were approaching the mountain where they thought we were.

It's a great map IMO, lots of viable strategies if you communicate.

I feel like this map really comes down to Lights and Medium mechs. The map size drowns Assaults and Heavies, and the sheer size of the map allows Mediums and Lights to use their hit and run tactics. Without Lights and Mediums grabbing and rushing the defensible terrain, the Assaults just get constantly ambushed forever.

Actually, I wish more maps were this size. Even the Community Warfare maps feel too small sometimes.

+1 i would remove Alpine from my list of Maps to play if i could. You spend much of the map staring up the ass end of a crack of a mountain .

Step 1: Drive a reasonably fast high-alpha mech (Thunderbolt, Timberwolf, maybe even Banshee).

Step 2: While everyone is picking at each other and camping, go around the mountain.

Step 3: Alpha strike the enemy team in the back and enjoy your Ace of Spades achievement.


Only time it doesn't work for me is when my team is so awful that they're all dead in the 2 minutes it take to get into position.

Alpine would be better if the hill were flattened, agreed.

That said, it's a map that is actually big enough for 12v12 (at least on conquest).

All the other maps (excepting terra therma which doesn't count because of the crater) are way too small for 12 player teams. Forest Colony would be a great map for about eight players total.

BTW all, Alpine was designed before the hill climb nerf kicked in. Non-jumping mechs had many more options to maneuver back then. I do wish PGI would mod it a bit and add a few more ramps/switch-backs here and there.

But hey, its good to have some long ranged maps in the rotation. Its real life and help keeps the game less boring. Not all fights are knife fights.

Caustic or River City are the worst maps imho.....

Caustic simply because ive been on it mroe times then I care to count, and cuz its just a big crater in the middle of a mostly open ground area...Nascar Valley

River City cuz its to damn tiny and the side that spawns on the harbor side seems to lose alot.
