So, the one thing in this game that dramatically drops my FPS is the steam effect from overheating... is there any way to disable this effect instead of reducing the quality of all effects?

All they need to do is reduce the frequency of the smoke particle effect in half, would still provide the nice visual without being so intense on FPS.

Any particle that's too close slows the engine way down.
Even shooting the ground in a locust and having those sparks kick up in your face brings the engine to its knees.

Reduce the Particle effects to Low.

Which specific video settings controls those? I might as well dial it down, but it's going to be annoying if its the same one that lets me see where my PPCs are landing/moving towards.

Literally just reduce the Particle setting. It affects the PPC beam, but not the impact splash effect.

Seems like a shame that you have to reduce so many effects globally, for the sake of a few that are such huge system hogs.
