I'm talking about the 4-10 heat sinks provided just for installing an engine, and not the extra heat sink slots that are included in larger engines.

Right now, those heat sinks benefit from the double heat sinks upgrade which offers a tremendous bonus to cooling over not taking the upgrade. I feel as though whether or not to take double heat sinks as an upgrade would be a much more interesting decision if the engine heat sinks counted as doubles with or without the DHS upgrade taken.

Most builds would remain unchanged, but certain builds that produce less heat overall could be made slightly more effective using singles instead. Or, players making large laser boats could sometimes benefit from a huge tonnage dump in singles in order to keep more critical slots for weapons.

I just think it would make for more interesting decisions in the mechlab rather than doubles being a straight-up part of the grind for good mechs.

Make all DHS TrueDubs too while you're at it.

I was going to say the MWO DHS that come with the engine already are true doubles (technically quads, since double cooling plus double threshold).

Then I read farther, you're asking for single heatsinks that come inside the engine to also count as doubles. That'd really help them, that's for sure.

Hm.

*Shrugs and supports.* I'd just like the thresholds to get fixed, personally, then 10 SHS would only take 30 seconds to cool from 100% heat instead 40 seconds for 10 and 25 seconds for 20. (I'm dead serious; this is because your threshold rises to 50.)

In Battletech, 10 SHS cool from 100% heat in 30 seconds, 20 SHS cool from 100% heat in 15 seconds.
10 DHS cool from 100% heat in 15 seconds.

In MWO, 10 DHS cool from 100% heat on an unelited mech (with 2/sec cooling rate) in 25 seconds.

Maximum alpha strike (in a single shot) would be 30 heat total.
Maximum firepower in 10 seconds (to shutdown) would be 30+ (your cooling rate*10 seconds). So if you have 10 DHS, 30 + a cooling rate of 2 units *10 seconds = 50 heat maximum firing potential to shutdown.

Currently MWO's logic is 30 + your cooling rate*10 = your maximum threshold... +20% if you're an elited mech.

O.o; Scary, isn't it?

I believe heatsinks balance needs far more changes. Suggestion, you could be interested.
As for particular case - i vote NO, because i think all DHS should be with same rates.
