Inner Sphere Case module is rarely used, It simply has very limited use.

Suggestion/Idea: Make case an actual housing for ammo, much like how you can insert heatsinks into an engine. make it 0/2 or 0/3 slot equipment, allowing it to help the user save a crit slot or two whilst housing a single type of ammo.

Balance?: Allow the case to be critted, activating the blowout immediately and destroying all the ammo contained inside.

Damage can be handled in one of three ways:
-Half Damage from ammo explosion to the specific mech part.
-No Damage, all contained within the CASE
-Same full damage as now, but with the new buff to case saving crit space.

-Why would this work?: Less ammo criticals to crit (up to 2 or 3 tons contained in 1 critical slot), saves critical slots to possibly allow more use of Ferro armor on IS mechs (or other equipment), and makes CASE a now very useful component to add to your mech at the cost of the same tonnage as before.

-Why I think it's a good idea: Allows further customization of IS mechs, makes CASE a newly potent mech support item that isn't just limited to STD engines (XL users will use it to save crit space)

WHAT ABOUT CLANS?!
---------------------------

Clans get free CASE that requires no critical slots on their components already, the IS version costs tonnage and 1 critical to use. This is simply providing the IS with a critical saving option that functions slightly differently from clan AUTOCASE.

However the damage decision is decided, mirror it on the clan's to maintain balance.

I doubt this will be done (and it's reminiscent of C.A.S.E. II).
But that said it's actually not a bad idea.

Far as how CASE is now, you'd find it used on every single XL engine mech ever fielded in MWO if R&R was still in. Part of an engine to repair is better than replacing the engine entirely.

(MWO's R&R only had like 1/3rd of the engine cost in repairs, but in Battletech you'd have to replace the entire engine... if there was anything left of the mech at all when the engine was destroyed. Oh, and a BattleTech XL 300 engine for a 100 ton assault mech is 12 million, where the XL 300 engine for a 25 ton mech is less than 1.8mil. Man would that suck so much to have the engine fry and have to replace it entirely. Trust me, IS CASE would have been used for that reason alone.)

It might happen. It's just that players have to see and want this for it to happen.

R&R is likely not going to make a comeback (maybe in CW at later stages, but definitely not pub games). This suggestion is purely to allow for more customization options overall in a IS mech. As it is right now anything bigger than a light mech typically doesn't use FF armor, due to the high amount of criticals it requires...often you're shy by 2-5 critical slots from making a build work with it.

This change would open FF possibilities, while also making the case module useful for more than a niche number of STD engine mechs. Clans already get CASE in every component with ammo, even arms/legs, IS only get to use CASE in side torso's generally, at the cost of tonnage.

I don't think a lot of players browse the forums, and this particular subforum probably gets looked at the least, but if a developer took a look and said "Oh, actually, that's kinda cool" maybe CASE would get looked at again :)
