Report from the Front: Behind Enemy Lines
By: Chekotai Allard (CI Field Reporter)

With Comstar Irregular operations deep behind enemy lines over the New Year's holiday, comms from my trusted source on the front lines were tied up in the declassification process. Now that CI is back in Inner Sphere space, I am proud to present the latest report provided by Mechwarrior Arvid Morgensen who is embedded directly on the front lines with CI.

"Today was a huge day for the Comstar Irregular Mercenary Corps as they announced their intentions for the future of the Mercenary command. Grand things are in store for these intrepid warriors, but most of those revelations, I cannot speak on. The contract that I signed with the unit in order to report and be embedded within their forces prevents me from being able to fully explain all that I now know, but I have been allowed to mention that great things are in store for this unit if all contracts are successfully completed.

As many within the Inner Sphere may have already heard through various rumors, the Comstar Irregulars, upon completing their contract terms with the Free Rasalhague Republic, have signed a new contract with the Ghost Bear Clan for a period of time. This will first be seen as a devastating blow to the FRR forces who had called them brethren these past few weeks, but fear not FRR forces! Rumor has it that the fine print on the new contract with Clan Ghost Bear is that the Comstar Irregulars will not be fighting against the FRR troops. Their contract states that their focus will be toward the Kurita and possibly fights within the Clan Invasion corridor itself.

Why would the Comstar Irregulars turn against the Inner Sphere many will ask? I have been searching for this answer myself, and come to many different conclusions, but there are two statements made by Comstar Leadership personnel that stand out as most likely in this instance.

First was a statement by Dracol, a senior leader within the CI Mercenary Command, “We may no longer be affiliated directly with our place of origin – Comstar – but we still hold true to their principles and the defense of the HPG networks. Our idea is what better way to protect the network than to have our troops stationed in these zones that have been invaded by the Clans?” This definitely would explain how a unit with its foundations in the Inner Sphere would now be fighting against the troops within it.

Another source within the Comstar Irregulars upper echelon stated, “While we may have been Comstar, our differences and mercenary ways lend us to find the best options to promote the Comstar way without restriction for whom we work. We are, after-all, mercenaries.” Again, as my previous article stated, these poor souls within the Inner Sphere are in a great deal of trouble, but hope may yet be on the horizon. The vast and wondrous plan that the Comstar Irregulars are beginning to play out might very well prove to be the savior for all in this war. Their road is a long one, but one that very well could decide the fate of the Inner Sphere."

Report from the Front: Behind Enemy Lines (con't)
By: Chekotai Allard (CI Field Reporter)

The grueling process of decimating the information from the Clan front continues. The events that transpired during the 15th and 16th day of the invasion have been cloaked in rumor. Buried within the pile of documents sitting upon my desk was a report by Mechwarrior Arvid Morgensen. This report provides some insight into the first clash between Mercs and Wolf troops deep behind enemy lines.

“The Comstar Irregulars are dropping against hardened defenses put in place by Clan Wolf against the attacks by the Mercenaries. Many on Clan Wolf have shuttled troops from multiple Galaxies to fight against the troops of the Irregulars. It has been a hard series of battles against the veteran clan troops, but the Irregulars are showing a lot of fight, even in their newly purchased Clan Omni-mechs. Many of the Irregulars were only signed on as fighters in the Inner Sphere, and have only recently gotten their legs under them against the Clan mechs from the Invasion.

Taking the long journey to the Periphery to full advantage, the forces that I have been imbedded with have worked exhaustive hours at learning the new mechanics and controls of the Clan Omni-mechs in the various simulators on the ships. Mercenary troops had regular rotations in order to fit everyone into the few simulators available to obtain as much experience as they could at handling the controls of their new mechs.

Their intense training for the past few weeks seems to have paid off as the Irregulars have gone toe to toe with the mighty Clan forces and done significant damage against their world. While the fight is far from won, the Irregulars have proven that without a large force, Clan Wolf cannot hold their world. The Irregulars have become pretty battle hardened and learned the techniques necessary to take the fight to the Clans from their time with the FRR. As such, they showed that they can win the majority of the battles they fight in, but in a twist of fate, Wolf has shown the Irregulars the same tactic that they used against the 228th, sending in massive waves of troops to overwhelm the Irregulars thin lines.

Word is that the Wolves can field almost 20 full companies to face the Irregulars if their entire Clan mobilizes. However, that would draw their resources away from defending other fronts and remove any chance of their forces being able to push against the Inner Sphere.

Additional forces may also join the fray in the form of the the hard fighting Merc Star Alliance. This one, two punch from the Mercenaries within Clan Ghost Bear could spell trouble for Clan Wolf. These two Merc outfits might still be outnumbered by Clan Wolf, but the Irregulars and Merc Star come with some of the best troops in the war.
Negotiations have been made between the mercenaries and the Wolf forces, and this has stalled out the attacks for now. The troops of Comstar Irregulars have slowed their attacks and shifted focus based on the requests of Clan Ghost Bear command and the hardened Clan Wolf defenses while negotiations proceed.

The purpose behind the negotiations is to calm the fears of Wolf forces and explain the reason for the attacks. According to the Mercenary forces of Merc Star Alliance and Comstar Irregulars, a proposal was made and was originally considered by Clan Wolf, but no agreement was reached across Clan Wolf. As a result, Comstar launched against the Wolves without a firm agreement in hand. The goal was a trade of planets across the rear of the Wolf Invasion zone. The reason for their trading of planets was to push through Wolf space in order to take the fight to Clan Jade Falcon. Leaving the alliance between Clan Wolf and Clan Ghost Bear intact, but giving the Mercenaries some good fights to have their troops let off steam and earn more for their unit coffers.

Hopefully an agreement can be reached before things get too heated between the Mercs and Wolf. If not… the Mercs will get the fight they want, but against a foe they weren’t aiming to take on. However, Wolf might very well get a fight out of it that they did not want in the first place. Hopefully arrogance and pride will not take over and calmer heads will prevail.”

Another day, another set of retaliatory strikes against the Clans. The frontlines continue to recede on the interactive time-lapse CW map over at the Comstar Chronicle.

Big thank you to the Beer Warriors for hosting Wobbly Wednesday last night. I failed at updating the CC last night cause of it, but dagnabbit it was a blast and totally worth the hang over.

We also took Jerico, or Jersey, or Jehovah, or whatever the name of that FRR planet is... (Or did they come back during the ceasefire?...)

It was Jezersko, and QQ Ragequit Mercs put up an excellent defense that secured the planet against the CGB aggressors in the final hour.

This is our epic fight with QQ. I think the song @ 25:30 that was picked at random by Slacker Radio, which I was listening to while playing, couldn't have been more perfect. Right In Two by Tool, it's a good song even better without battle coms and explosions. But I think it added something to the video right at the end.

Irece has fallen to the Smoke Jaguar offensive campaign. Teniente is next planet in line. Night's Scorn and their Kurita brethren stopped the Jaguars once before on Teniente. Will they be able to repeat history?
