The trick is your cocky enough is skin just inside the blob, rake someone with leasers and drop a arty at there feet and the uav at the same time.

People usally only expect one and your uav will survive a few seconds longer.

If there is someone who quickly spotted one UAV, they'll likely be looking for more.

Tangentially, do people have as much trouble as I spotting UAV's in the V-Bog? It seems nearly impossible. The sky is so bright, and so many trees.

Exactly. I'm addicted of UAVs for that kind of legit wallhack:
- LRM helper of course
- "preshoot" that mech crawling from his cover
- give the team life-saving intel like breaking an ennemy surprise flank
- ruin ECM-mech life (when under UAVs, ECM able mechs are often primaried... if your team is smart enough
- search for cored targets without LOS in order to finish them
- ...

UAVs is my swiss army knife. So if people know how to shoot them quickly, its very bad news for me ;-)

PS:

I don't play lurms often. I dont like that weapon and dont like heavy/assault mechs.

For the moment, i only play with my beloved zombie stormcrow. Best mech of da game IMHO.
Its agile, its fast, it has high torso mount (PPCS above cockpit <3), it can almost 360° torso turn, front side hitboxes are cheated and side arms protect the torso, the invasion avr has a 30% c bill bonus, waiting queue is shorter, the hardpoints allow great versatility and you have acces to funniest weapon of the game: streak srm6 XD. The only think lacking IMHo is dual balistic points on arms to put machine guns alongside with erppcs builds.

I actually run UAV in every single one of my mechs..yes even the Assaults..

Facing a team that are good shots.. why the hell does everyone call hack/cheating when things don't go how they think they should, UAV's are not that difficult to shoot down, once seen

Except that's the point when you are out of sight and check for UAV's... then someone tracks you anyway coming around a corning already firing straight at you.....

Its almost a guarantee when they claim UAV and you already checked... not like they're hard to spot.

If you win a lot of games (because of the uav?) you'll get a higher elo, and on mid-high elo levels uav's are priority targets, for obvious reasons.

Popping them close to tall buildings and cliffs helps them last longer. But yeah they are a priority target, and will get shot down often.

I think i have a "medium" ELO because... well, many times i run a game... And because starting a game i so f*ing long... I do something else while the matchmaker/timer/initiation sequence is running... And when i alt tab back, sometimes the match is over.

I just don't care. I really miss old times when there was no "ELO", when permanoobs and überplayers were in the same death match arena.

It was fun to meet so much different people with different skill level... Now, no matter how you play (like a god or a derp) you will always meet players with the same skill level and always feel average... Unless you fool the ELO with games played bad - on purpose - kind of ELO cooldown - fun and effective way to farm.

Launching UAVs is best done in pairs, one in front and one behind the enemy if you can manage it. They'll kill the one in front, but it'll take them a few seconds to locate the one just behind them, and that gives you the time you need to rain on them.

If you watch you CAN see UAVs launch. I often see them go up and am just about to open fire when I realize that it's one of our's. Keep an eye out. You will see them and can engage them almost immediately.

Also - important to note: damage-dropoff due to range is not applied to UAVs (it's bugged).

This means that you can shoot down UAVs with Small or Medium Lasers (or any kind of Laser) from virtually any distance!

You can thank some of the previous challenges that PGI has run which strongly favored LRM usage and thus UAVs as well. Suddenly everyone and their grandmother were using them and it really opened people's eyes to how powerful they are. As a result due to their high usage it also got people into the habit of keeping one eye on the skies looking for them so people have increased situational awareness regarding them.

Bohemian Missile Rhapsody

Is this the real life? (How are they getting a lock?)
Is this just fantasy? (Am I out of line of sight?)
Caught in a landslide (of Missiles Incoming)
No escape from reality; (that LRMs are raining on my head)
Open your eyes (and experience the nausea)
Look up to the skies and see (the enemy UAV)

that's great!

They are definitely cheating if they can shoot down a uav. You should report each person you see who has the raw skill to shoot one down. I pray to god you can bring these people to justice.

Don't deploy a replacement UAV in the same general area as one that's been shot down within a few seconds of its destruction. Whoever popped the first one will be looking for more- it's as good as free money. Reposition, try to mask the new one's location with environment (volcanic plumes, structures, etc), and wait at least a ten count so that the shooter's eyes will have wandered back down. Better, have someone on your team take a poke at them from a different direction (since you can see where the shot came from, presumably) when you're about to deploy the replacement. Consumable does not have to equal disposable.

actualy there is a bug involved as UAV shots do not make range checks on lasers.
you can shoot them down @600m with SL no problem.
on a side note, i hate it wwhen the enemy uav gets shot down before i could use it to target my arty.

I remember caustic when I took down 4 uav's within 10 secs.
it is generally not a good thing deploying a new UAV if one just was destroyed becasue this one will very likely be instantly spotted as well and taken down.

deploying an UAV is a bit of its onw science if you want ot to last some time, because you need to make sure poeple will hardly be able to see it or not recognise it. Yet for me a UAV mostly has its job done if it can for a short moment provide enemy information. Knowing the numbers and indicating your team these Information as well is the true value of an UAV.

Also, if you're close, BAP counters the UAV's self-ECM, so you can lob a Streak at it and be done.

The second I'm targeted by a missile by someone that can't see me, or when that Light zips through your ranks, or into your line of fire too closely, it's pretty obvious what's going on if you've been playing this game for a while.

I mean, there are places you can put up a UAV where they're *harder* to see, but veteran players are used to looking for them and can sniff them out real fast. Not a cheat, just experience.
