Well... this is all science fiction, as far as I'm concerned. First, let's see how long it takes before CW offers any rewards beyond C-bills and Hula girls. Right now, Faction still has virtually no function, beyond deciding whether you want to be on a winning or losing team. And whether you like the Dragon-flag or the Fisting flag.

Some people prefer some faction or another because they read a book about Katrina Steiner and found her sexy, but I think 90% of the MWO players don't really know anything about their faction, except that Kurita are space samurai and FRR are space vikings.

I'm guessing Comstar won't be joinable, PGI seem to have reserved that for themselves, both from the ex-CM's roleplaying on the forums, and because the PGI logo is currently on Terra. I wouldn't be too surprised to see them do something special for membership in the ComGuards though, like a winning team in a tournament gets to join the ComGuards and fight on any planet, for the IS.

Actually its better for people to move between Inner Sphere and Clan to balance the numbers for better matchmaking. If there are too many Inner Sphere or Clan, CW matchmaking is much slower.

I should know, I played it, through Alpha and through Beta, right up to when EA pulled the plug.

Rank 14 as well, but finding matches is very difficult for most of the day. It also goes rather fast if you are capable of getting 2k+ LPs every second match, making the match rank farming much frendlier.

I wouldn't worry about incentives. I'm sure they'll roll out an expansive & generous reward system for higher tier and permanent contract players. The stuff offered now is only a placeholder, remember.

Something tells me I will be rank 20 before some serious rewards are introduced...

Which will lead to most experienced players leaving their factions for rewards elsewhere.

You mean for the new rewards? I am not sure, from what I heard Russ saying the rewards should be rewarded retrospectively, so unless you somehow screw your rank you should get it anyway. Not sure if such behaviour is intended though, they might implement some checks and balances to keep this system from being exploited.
