UAC5 is the IS variant, fires one 5 damage shell, then another with the double tap
CUAC5 is the clan variant, fires a stream of shells for 5 dmg, then another stream with double tap
CLB5-X is a shotgun, fires pellets totalling 5 dmg.

you have way too much ammo, drop some for lasers.

I'd recommend upgrading two to UAC/10s like this build.

Well, dakka dakka dakka, you can shave more armor from that empty arm, and add to your legs if you like.

I'd recommend new players not run ultra slow assaults like the dwolf. Make ur life easier and get a Stormcrow or one of the heavies.

Three year veteran doesn't know what certain weapons do, maybe it's time for some better descriptions in the mech lab...

I pilot a DWF about 85%-90% of the time.

At least 3 CUAC5 is recommended. All 3 may jam, most of the time no more than 1 will jam on you if you work it right.

2 CLPL, 3-4 tons of ammo, TC1, and the rest DHS and you should be good to go.

With this build you can link all weapons together without overheating.

He is giving you a resource to look up changes throughout the history of the game, so you can go from what you already know and work your way up to the details of the weaponry as those weapons stand currently.

Your responses are a bit perplexing. You are asking a question to learn about the game now, but when someone offers somethign helpful, your response is about your past, specifically that you didn't care about learning about the game before. If that is still the case, why bother with the thread? If it is not, why not go look up the resources offered?

You already have Smurfy available and can use it. What else do you need to know?

CLPL = Clan Large Pulse Laser. - Pulse Lasers have increased tonnage and\or heat for more damage output.
TC1 = Targeting Computer 1 - Increases your crit chance with certain weapons and reduces lock on timers.. I think.
DHS = Double Heat Sink. - Twice the cooling efficiency of regular heatsinks but take double the amount of space and therefore have a higher chance to be destroyed by crits.

If you're running a pure ballistic Assault 'Mech, you're going to run into problems. Read up on your patch notes or read up on the weapons at least. As Clan you have access to some seriously impressive laser weapons. You're only hurting yourself by not taking them. Clan Ballistic weapons however are kinda meh.

Personally, for my CUAC5 build, I run:
DWF-B
The quad 5's can chain fire pretty much infinitely, the lasers give some extra focused kick and a backup weapon.

The small lasers help with lights and finishing stuff off, though could be switched out for more ammo.
Both help in a brawl.

For LBX I run:
DWF-B
I just like this. It feels meaty.

For helpful documentation:
Smurfy which you already use for builds is really good resource.
It lists all the weapons here, and equipment and modules here.

Sarna is the Battletech wiki and a fantastic resource, explaining what everything is if you're just willing to look.
This page lists all the weapons mechs can have, plus others that aren't released yet.

Patch Notes will have any changes made on a regular basis.
Check it each patch.

The Gamepedia wiki is a little slow to update, but a good resource for beginners.

Your uac5 build has 17 tons of ammo..

That seems way, way, over the top, to me. Maybe cut back to 8 or so and upgrade the lasers?

With that, I honestly didn't even look at the tonnage.
It's 1620 rounds.
That works out to roughly 6-8 minutes of continuous fire.
And I'll do it too.

With Chainfire and no lasers, you don't really overheat.
And for CW this will be even more important for protracted engagements.

8 isn't enough regardless.

As a general rule, you want roughly 3T of ammo per cannon.
You can get away with 2.5 in a pinch, but ideally you want 3.

This means the ideal 'minimum' is 12T with 4 CUAC5, and with the DWFs high rate of fire using them, you can easily run out using that.

I could probably drop it to 15T without too much trouble though.
