And im amazed they still sell any rulebooks.

This is the days of pdfs. All us grognards are aging and already own them. I dont feel like were pulling in "new fans". Either in Shadowrun or Btech.

The Shadowrun game is pretty good. As good as the old Sega one, if not better. PnP doesnt ever have much showing at cons, and I dont know anyone who plays it anymore in the greater Valley area.

If new fans do come along, I imagine theyre young, and theres Megamek and that Game Suite with Shadowrun modules and pdfs...all the youngins these days are little thieves. And these days I get most of my stuff from Ebay...so Im amazed anyone is still in business.

hey. thats not nice. I am young, 19, and I enjoy this game and like the universe. I'm just not ready to cling to the past when the game might benefit from some changes even if they defy lore.

One persons clinging to the past, is another persons endeavor to stay true to the original work.

And neither is right or wrong really, it takes all kinds. Thats what a community is.

I understand the nostalgia is a heavily compelling force. Maybe if the community can find some modders they could make a table top version of Battletech on a game called "Board Game simulator"

Keep in mind, these areas of space are huge and cover a wide range of religions, races, and cultures. In Kuritan space, it is not uncommon to find blonde-haired, blue-eyed Scandinavian descendants that are as loyal as any of Asian ancestry.

You could also take a look at the major languages in the States.

In Lyran space, the official language is German, the other dominant languages are English, Scottish Gaelic, Italian, French.

On the front page it says: MWO is A BATTLETECH GAME

I wouldn't be playing it if it was just some generic mech shooter like Hawken.

How would some of you like a Star Wars game where you could learn to use X-men powers like Optic Blast and D&D powers like Magic Missile with lightsaber gloves that gave you laser fists for punching better? And instead of using Lightspeed to traverse hyperspace, you used a warp drive? And droids could have midichlorians in their oil so could use the force?

And if you wanted to be a Jedi, you'd have to buy a juice box of midichlorians and drink it for 4 hours of force powers, otherwise your lightsaber gloves would not function.

Instead of Light and Dark side, there would be Fire and Ice side! Ice side is cooler.

Wait, am I describing Infamous 2?

Jordan Weisman had long explained that Battletech history is based on the Dark Ages.

Star League = Roman Empire
The Houses = The separated pieces of the Roman Empire after it broke.
Comstar = Catholic Church and its Knight Orders (aka like the Templars and Chevaliers).

The Clans are simply, the Mongols. That is way obvious with the Clans using Khan for their titular leader. Clans use the term Touman as the sum total of its miilitary assets, and for the Mongols it represents a division. Of course, there is no greater Khan than Genghiz himself.

The Mongols are not completely united, they themselves are separated into tribes but also into Hordes, which is akin to an Army Corps.

Probably the most famous of the Mongol Hordes is the Golden Horde. There is also the Blue Horde, the White Horde and the Great Horde.

The Mongols are notable for the speed of their conquests. A Mongol from a child grew up riding horses and learning to use the bow and arrow, which makes them the perfect cavalry man. Their horn tipped arched bows gave them superior reach and hitting power over other forms of archery. They also developed the perfect cavalry sword, which is now adopted universally across many nations as the saber.

The Mongols though, differ from the Clans as they are not fascist racists. They would readily adopt the top talents of their conquered, especially among the Chinese and the Persians, which greatly aided the Mongols in developing metallurgy, siegecraft and architecture (like the fabled capital city of Kublai Khan, Xanadu). The most important Chinese invention was that they were able to employ was gunpowder. Thus when the Moslems and medieval Europeans first met the Mongols, the Mongols were superior in every way, tactically, divisionally, mobility, and technologically, and rolled over them.

Word of Blake, Jihad --- Most likely the Third Years War in Europe, where Catholics and Protestants slaughtered each other in God's name. Republic of the Sphere represents the fragile peace after that.
