Hey.

So I haven't been around much in a while. Last actual match I played was right after the mech rescale patch. Been toying with the idea of jumping back in.

As Steam is updating MWO, i thought I would come here and ask if anything has changed since... when was that rescale? May of last year or some such? And what I mean is this- I have been lurking on the forums every couple months or so and I understand the news about the MW5 stuff, I know they are reworking skill trees, that type of stuff.

I am just wondering, gameplay wise, has anything really changed? Is there some new weapon mechanics or whatever that have been drastically altered in the last 6 months I need to take into consideration? Not really worried about which mech is now "the best" or that stuff, just more like, more general things, like "dakka boats are 150% dead" or "poptart HGN is the current meta(lol)"

I will figure out the minor quirk garbage just from looking and playing. I just am looking for more general type info so I am not surprised by half a a squad of poptarting AC10 boats or lurmageddon 3.0 or whatever. Not super interested in which mech got nerfed unless there is one that got megastomped into the ground to the point of making team mates angry I showed up in one, likewise on buffing, only super over the top stuff plz in that regard.

Anyway, hope to melt your faces in game soon!

Rescale was generally OK, but PGI never updated quirks to adjust for mech's new sizes. Minor gameplay changes, with several Gauss Rifle nerfs. Energy Draw was scrapped because PGI ruined it through several iterations, I think, deliberately too. Notice a lack of Ghost Heat complaints? Yeah... this is psychologically messed up.

Also, welcome back!

Most lights and mediums which relied on hitboxes and speed took a pretty bad hit.
Firestarters for example are rather rare these days.

Other than that, large pulse still syncs with medium, er-ppc with gauss. boating ac5 uac and the likes is still king.

they "fixed" Faction Warfare. Again.

And um..... more mechpacks?

Beyond that, I reserve any real optimism for the skill tree revamp. How well or poorly that is done will flavor any further interaction here.

Conversely, Battletech 2017 should be ready for Beta right about then, so, There you go.

Thank you for the replies. It sounds like I can just jump back in where I left off 6 months ago. Surprised but not surprised I guess, to see such little change made it through testing last fall. I have shiny new Cyclops and Night Gyr's I haven't even looked at waiting for me when I log in.

Should I bother trying a drop in FW? I mean what did they change? I haven't played that mode since they released the mediums and lights only mode. Anything of note? Or just a reshuffle and still a ghost town?

They unified the fronts, so you aren't really attacking individual planets and you aren't fighting for specific factions. There is one bucket, and it's all IS vs. Clan. It drops you on a planet and all of the matches are extended Quick Play (meaning, Quick Play maps with 4 respawns) until you get to the Invasion phase for that planet, where it flips to the FW maps and all their infamy and the FW you remember is in full play there.

From what I've read, the Clans have basically kept the IS pegged on the defensive since FW 4.1 came out, but it also depends on time zone. YMMV.

Yeonne pretty well covered it. Drop times seem a bit better with the changes made. Scout mode is still my preference, and with the changes to Clan Drop Decks, the Skill Crow is gone from Scout, so the Kings are arguably the Splat Griffins and Oxides. Clan side of the equation, the Huntsman is a decent performer, but not the insta legger the IS has. Some IS crybabies whine about the dreaded "8xSRM" HMN, but that model really is not terribly optimal, as it's just beyond insanely hot...as are pretty much all HMN builds. And they can't match the grouping from the IS SRMs.

Can't really think of what can be done to balance that out better, though, tbh, at least, not in a way that won't gimp all those chassis outside of FW. (Well Oxide is overquirked still, and the GRF is arguably also... but not seeing either in huge quantities in QP, so....)

Heh. That actually sounds sort of interesting. At least significant. I will have to shake a little rust off but I might go try that just to see how it has panned out.

Thanks all.

A word of advice:

Bring the most optimized and powerful 'Mechs you can or you are going to have a bad time. Leave the LRMs at home.

hahaha, no worries, I used to play the mode and broke 2k dmg easily(invasion mode or whatever) so it will be more of a figuring out what I like to play again and retooling the deck type situation. I own most everything they released up till recently so I just need to blow the dust off them.

Speaking of, I logged in and found out I got 2 loyalty mechs, a phract and... hellbringer? BONUS. I dropped a match or 3 in the Phract, did ok. Took a little to orient myself to the crosshair speed again but no biggie.

Then I played a Night Gyr match, that thing is a beast.

Then I played 2 Cyclops matches, not that bad. My third match just now, I loaded up a variant with ALL THE SRM(and a pair of ERLL), hit launch, "forest colony skirmish" get to load screen- "F read error, 128k something something 0k" crash to desktop. Then I tried to rejoin and it did the same thing.

Is this common now days? I haven't had crash issues with MWO since beta days. I am going to try again later but I feel bad for depriving my team of an assault, despite it being out of my control.

Anyway I am glad to be back in the pilot seat and so far it has been enjoyable.

I wouldn't say crashes are common. I can't remember the last time I've seen a crash. I do know the game still isn't totally happy with Full-Screen, but Full/Borderless Window is flawless from my experience.

Hmmmm. That's not normal or common. I highly recommend going and doing a run through with the repair tool, or if you're using the steam version verifying the game cache. Better safe than sorry.

And yeah, as Yeonne said, Fullscreen Borderless Window is the way to go.

Pretty sure I am on full window but I will go check that. I am on Steam, so I will verify that too. Thanks for the advice there.

Update: I ran a verification and Steam decided one file was whack, so it downloaded something tonight. I am feeling confident that was my issue.

See you all on the field!
