My commando cannot, no matter what I do, use his arms separately from his torso.
Using the designated button (shift) does nothing, not even unlocking it in the gameplay tab does anything.
Need help!

Note: Shift is a 'hold to activate' button not a tap-toggle.
First, make sure the "Armlock" is not ticked in the options.
Get into a match.
Do not press shift.
Press left CTRL and hold it.
Does a "o" with a line follow your vision (for the most part)? The line will lead back to the "+" which is your torso aim.
Without letting go of left CTRL, tap shift. The "o" will return to the +... and then return to where you are looking. Has that happened?
If you answer yes to both, your problem is solved.
Armlock off in footage (the 'targeting' crosshair used to get the missile lock in the first of the two scenes).

You're not in 3rd person right? (f4 to switch)

There you go.
Besides, cockpit view is pretty much superior to 3rd person anyways. The way that the crosshair jumps around in 3rd person makes me dizzy.
Just change up your field of view (See THIS THREAD) to help get comfy in cockpit mode. The default setting has your face pressed to the glass like a stereotypical elderly driver.

Slightly unrelated FYI: you can now map the arm lock as a toggle eg using caps lock etc.
