Just slap as many SPLs as you can and you can just melt mechs.
Can even put them on chain fire, and just have like a half a second or less pause between pushing them and get a constant stream of small pulse laser death.

This would radically increase the facetime required. Zipping in, dumping the damage, and zipping out is the lifeblood of a Light.
It's not like a 5SPL alpha is likely to melt you (only about 20% heat).
