There should be a closed beta to get the feel right and an open beta to work the bugs out.

It's a MMO. They'll probably open the beta late in the cycle to stress test the servers before going live if nothing else.

This game wouldn't be in alpha stage yet lol. If it is then could be funny to see the bugs they start out with.

Once they actually get to the Beta stage, I imagine a closed-beta would be offered first (how they would chose the people to have a good test base I dont know) in order to ensure that any major bugs and gameplay issues are taken care of. Probably work on some balance issues that may arise as well, then open the beta in order to test the server capacity (as mentioned above) as well as work out any smaller bugs or issues that arise from having more players.

Either way, I would love to be able to play the game now (even though I know thats not anywhere near possible).

Actually closed beta to find the bugs and balance issues, open beta to stress test the server(s).

Beta testing isn't about playing, it is testing for bugs and balance issues.

A closed beta would be nice because we will be able to single out those nasty bugs and it would be awesome to get picked to know what i will be playing but i will have to get picked in order to do so
