Hi All,

Playing for the first time in a long time. I never played much. Anyway, I have a new computer which has allowed to try the game again.

My question: What is ping rate? I am guessing that it has to do with connection speed, my is around 67...

Thanks,

Jim

67 is pretty good, better than mine! Ping is how long, in milleseconds, it's taking for data to go from you to the server.

As Redshift said it is time for data to travel between your PC and the server, but he forgot to mention that the ping time also includes the return journey.

my ping (from the UK) is usualy around 105, this means it takes about 52 ms (or about 1 20th of a second) for the data to get from my PC to the server, the server then sends a reply which takes another 52ms for it to return to my PC.

this also means the other Mechs are in a slightly different position on the other players PCs to yours, the server uses some programing to try to ensure your shots hit regardless of the differing positions

Rock it and have fun

It seems to have nothing to do with performance at all, more a very rough guide on how much to lead a shot if you don't seem to be lagging badly or rubber banding to an unplayable degree.

My connection is almost always around 114 ping but after 7pm my local time the game is unplayable, mechs are warping all over the place, I'm rubber banding like a mofo, no shots are connecting...all still with 114 ping.

Shatterpoint, sound like you are on DSL! :P

Mine is usually around 28ms in Chicago.

If I could get better service I would, I'd have to move to an urban slum for something better...currently I'd rather have slightly worse internet than massively worse living conditions..I doubt I'm alone on this. For whatever reason this game is affected a huge amount more than any other in this issue...Battlefield 3/4 = fine, Warframe = fine, Firefall = fine, Hawken = fine, MMOs = fine...MWO = screwed.
