That's sometimes the point of LRMtarting. You don't have optimum position, range or something else, but you need to make something happen and/or dislodge those guys pinning your forces down. It's situational, but when properly used (and it does require finding a range 'sweet spot' that is not always available) you can snuff those poptarts or damage them enough to make them abandon their sniper nest. It's often better for maps with altitude differential AND more cover... although I've found some very sweet spots on Alpine peaks and Caustic that work. Don't just ape the Poptarts (rare as they are now) because you will lose that trade unless they're very easily rattled or hurt.

It's a tool for your bag of tricks as someone who LRMs.

Once again I will laugh out loud at anyone saying hitting with direct fire weapons is easier than hitting with LRM's yes there are position things you have to do to get hits with lrms, but part of that is because they are guided to the target. To be good with direct fire you need to keep fire on the enemy target while you are moving and they are moving, to be great you need to hit the same spot on the target while they are moving and you are moving. Compared to lrms which if you get someone out in the open you are guaranteed hits, a direct-fire player is never guaranteed hits. In fact if I some one is hitting me with lasers and are sweeping them across my mech I don't even bother torso twisting or backing onto cover I just start returning fire because the damage they are doing is insignificant. Also there are positional things you have to do to get hits with Direct fire and not get tore up while giving out damage. In the other thread someone was using his stats to show that he was just as efficient with lrm15's as his medium laser since he put out the same damage per hit as his lrms so his argument was if lrms are a newb weapon so are lasers. Well guess what I do way more damage per hit with my ML that I do LRM's, in fact I had about the same damage per hit with LRM's than he did, as a self proclaim's LRM Specialist.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate lrms, nor do I think they are OP. I just know form experience that using them is holding you back. Trust me I know, my primary mechs used to be a cat-c1 wth 3 ml+tag (sometimes 2 LL and 300xl) and LRM15's or a blr-1s with lrm 50 and 3 ml's+tag. Nightshade said if people are getting 300+ damage the are skilled LRM user, since I switched from to using direct fire exclusively my low games are around 300 damage, my normal games are 500 to 700 and my high games are 1000+, and I do that way more often than I ever did with LRM's, plus I have way less games where I am completely in-effective because or ECM, AMS, Rader DEPR, Cover, and Not getting locks. I also have an old computer and generally only get around 25 fps when playing.

As I said in the last thread why would even want to bother with a weapon system that can be hard countered 3 ways (ecm, ams, min range) or avoided, (rader derp, cover) and put you in a situation that to be effective you have to completely rely on you other teammates.

My reason is simple - sometimes I'm just getting sick of balance in this game. You know, invulnerable lights, one-shotting alphas, LRMs, that are dealing enormous amount of damage - even with all LRM nerfs your armor becomes orange even after one hit of LRM swarm and becomes ripped off after second, terrible map design, unbalanced maps and spawn points, pathetic MM... At some point, after 100500 roflstomps in a row or several hours being unable to spend even a single 2x XP bonus for example, I just realize, that there is no point in trying to be competitive in this game, put some effort into it. I just want to relax, get some fun and, of course, get rewards, that I deserve. At that point I'm grabbing my LRM60 boat with more then 2k ammo on board and start getting fun.

Until I get my game rig, I have to use a crap lap top...so LRMs it is. Plus they do a great job of distracting and taking threats out of the fight.

That's cool dude. Just don't ever ask for locks. The guys spotting are drawing fire for you too, so their job is about a billion times harder.

Can't argue those are all reasons why at times I play lrm boats. The ability to contribute is great, and also it is easy C-Bills.

Well, I ask nicely "Please hold those locks when possible"
I'm not demanding, because I know how dangerous it is. I've been on the spotting side, I got killed just for poking my little spidee head to spot and hold the lock on that stalker in the distance. I often ask at the start of the round if we have LRMs when I run my spidee. If we do, I'll do my best to hold locks, if we don't, well... I'm going all out. I know that LRM boats are useless without spots, and at CQB. If I don't do my job as a light and not spot, that means that LRM boat is almost useless, and that means victory will be further away.

As LRM boat, if no one spots, I'll just move in the frontlines and hope for the best. I've met some people who refuse to spot because I play the LRM game. A little disappointing, but meh, that's one less player in his side. Can't blame me if we lose right? He did refuse to do a simple task of pressing R when engaging that centurion over there.
I'm not demanding for locks, I'm just asking nicely.

Thanks for illustrating selfish play there.

Some people just aren't team players.

I had a pro Lurm post in mind but why would you clan war at 8 FPS ever? First drop that happens I'd be out of there.

The only situation where LRM's are OP is anytime you're ending up on Polar Highlands (Usually against your will)..
