Mics/headsets are cheap, so some will argue there is no reason not to just buy one. However, if you have a smartphone, all you need is a 3.5mm (headphone) accessory cable, and an app.
I've been using the following setup for about 2 weeks now, and except one minor issue (which was the fault of my realtek onboard sound card and would have happened with any mic) it has worked great. Other players have reported that I come through loud an clear.
For Android, the app you want is creatively called Microphone. There are two in the play store, one by Wonder Grace, and one by Gaz Davidson. I found the Wonder Grace one to have better sound quality, and several features (such as gain control) that make it superior.

Once you install the app you simply need an 3.5mm accessory cable of the type commonly used to hook up an MP3 player to a car stereo or other device. This is simply a cable with a headphone jack on each end. Many computer speakers use them, some cell phones and MP3 players come with them, and if you don't have one, they are very cheap. Cheaper than a headset. It doesn't matter if it is mono or stereo. If you have 2 old pairs of headphones and a soldering iron, you could even make one.
Fire up the app, plug one end of the cable into the headphone jack in your phone, and the other into the mic jack on your computer, and you are off to the races! No more excuses!
If you have an iOS phone Von Bruno Microphone seems to be the equivalent app, though it costs $1. I haven't used it, only the above discussed apps.
There is also a TS app, however the advantage of this setup is having a PTT hotkey on your keyboard instead of having to touch your phone, or having it use the problematic (in my experience) automatic transmit setting.
