It seems speed determines if we can traverse certain slopes, which I can understand...but what about the steps and various obstacles on Viridian Bog that aren't slopes?

It seems I'm frequently getting stuck on the steps. It would seem speed shouldn't matter for those steps, either you can lift your leg high enough or not...but some how I'm always getting hung up and stuck. Same with the roots, I clear them if I'm fast, get hung up if I'm slow.

Am I missing something?

I guess the idea of getting mired in the roots and vines is part of the map's environmental hazards...I'm fine with that, but it should all play out intuitively, it should be a puzzle.

The legs are an illusion... mechs drive like they have wheels :(

Speed and tonnage are what I think determines it.

Movement archetypes and angles of the hill.

Then why is my 90km/h Hunchback getting hung up on the steps?

The steps seem to have a pattern to them that doesn't match visuals. Try it out in testing grounds. Its messed up.

It's due to the steps being too wide vertically, you need to find the zig/zag to get up those areas or use a JJ Mech.

Here is the command Chair Post on mech-movement-behavior

The values for slowing down need a bit of tweaking IMHO, and it would be nice to have those maps made for all of the currently avaliable maps for players to look at also.

So that spot on the steps...

Without JJs I can't go forward because of the root, and the steps behind me can't be traversed apparently.

But really, it's determined per chassis as you can find out which archetype is on each mech (through smurfys), although the chart of specifics is somewhere muddled among the Command Chair posts about it.

The system is rather inelegant, especially because of the "Pebbles of Steel™" that stop you at random.
