Hi everyone.
I normally use my Mac, and only fire up my Windows box whenever I wish to play MWO. This makes it a bit of a pain to check how things are going in the Inner Sphere, now that Community Warfare is a thing.
Thankfully, the PGI Fox have given us a CW API to work with!
I have used the data provided by PGI to make an interactive map. This map is not a static, server-generated image or plugin-dependent (Silverlight or Flash), it is pure, native HTML5 and Javascript.
Currently, it looks something like this:
PLEASE NOTE: For some reason, Firefox renders the map incredibly slow. For much better performance, use a Webkit-based browser like Chrome or Safari. I am looking into optimizing for Firefox, but for now just use something else.
Known bugs/issues:
- Resizing the browser will currently break stuff.
- No support for touch devices.
- It is possible to "select" two planets simultaneously.
- Text and/or graphics may overlap when planets are close.
- Firefox has a much slower rendering engine than Chrome/Safari, and is not recommended.
Check it out and please give me some feedback.
All source code for this map is freely available on GitHub. Feel free to pick it apart or fork it, but it you do, leave a comment

I have just released a new version of the online Community Warfare map viewer.
New features:
- The map looks nicer! Each faction's territory now has a background color, and its capital has the faction icon as a backdrop image.
- The map is now full screen!
- Everything works much smoother in Firefox (but Chrome/Safari is still recommended).
- The map is responsive. This means it is possible to view it on your tablet or cellphone.
- Zooming in will show planet names that fade in as you zoom.
For now, touch gestures won't work, only navigating with the mouse.
Here's how it looks at the moment:
I am mostly making this because I find coding to be fun, so any feedback to maybe getting actual useful functionality would be great

Just popping on to say that after doing various searches for browser-based CW maps, I find yours to have the best presentation. Mouse-over planet updating and capital planets identified are awesome features. Love this map. If you haven't yet, guys, check this out.

Looks fantastic!
Some functionality option ideas:
-Search for planet
-Map history (slide show to see territory changes)
-Planet owner history.
But excellent work considering you're just dabbling in code for fun!
