Mechwarrior calls for something orchestral, yet violent. Woodkid has that in spades.

I gain a bunch of situational awareness from sound as well as being able to tell when weapons are recycling from the patterns of sound. I couldn't imagine removing one of my possible ways of detecting enemies in a combat game.

I agree when playing seriously (SRS MODE ENGAGE!!). In PUG mode, good musak helps dull the mind.

Uh huh... PUG mode would be that mode where you don't have teammates who can tell you a Timberwolf just walked around the corner behind you, right?
I don't take games serious, but the first thing I do in every game I play is turn off the music. I then only add in my own soundtrack if there is no advantage to hearing the ingame sounds. It just seems foolish to go into a combat situation deafening yourself.
Zombie apocalypse will probably end any music appreciation I have.

You are absolutely correct! That said, blasting someone with PPCs to the beat of a hard rock song has its merits...
