In General:
- For shorter wait-times, pick a planet where the numbers of attackers and defenders are high, that means, close to 60.
- Destroy/defend the generators. They are grey-silverish and look a little bit like the shield-generator on Hoth in Star Wars.
- The generators cannot be locked on.
- The last generator is at the backside of the orbital cannon, surrounded by turrets.
- The gates and the orbital cannon are indestructible. Don't even bother.
- EDIT: The mission is to destroy the orbital cannon ("Omega") before the clock reaches zero. The defenders can still win, even if they get destroyed to the last man, as long as they can run down the clock.
When defending:
- Let the enemy come to you. Don't rush him. Let him walk into your crossfire.
- If possible, send a fast and jump-capable scout out to detect the attackers' movements.
- EDIT: Don't oppose the enemy right at the gate. Prepare a second line of fire at the chokepoints behind the gate.
- EDIT: Try counting how much tonnage the enemy has already spent. Has he used lots of assaults and heavies? Then expect a light rush.
When attacking:
- EDIT: Don't even attempt to win this by killing the defenders unless you are super-duper-mega-good. (Just to be clear: If you didn't realize this by yourself, you aren't good at all.) They stay in cover and run down the clock. And when the clock reaches zero, you lose.
- How to open the gate: Move up on the ramp beside the gate and destroy the generator behind the gate. If the defenders are shooting at you, one tactic is to run along the ramp at full speed and to give the generator an alpha-strike right before you fall of the cliff. Then take cover at the gate against the incoming LRM-bombardment. Rinse and repeat.
EDIT: Another tactic is sniping. The generators of some gates can be seen and sniped from a very specific location. If you can find these spots, you can safely open the gate by sniping the generator without the defenders even seeing you.
- Teamwork.
- Teamwork.
- Teamwork.
- If someone gives orders to the group, F***ING FOLLOW THEM.
- Always regroup and always attack in waves. The more people rush in, the better. DO NOT GO ALONE OR IN SMALL GROUPS UNLESS YOU ARE REALLY, REALLY FAST.
- It's almost impossible to destroy the defenders, because you are outgunned. Focus on the generators.
- TRY TO HIDE THE ROUTE OF YOUR ATTACK UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT. IF A SCOUT FINDS YOU, PICK A NEW ROUTE BECAUSE THE DEFENDERS KNOW FROM WHERE YOU WILL BE COMING.
- If you get pinned down in front of a gate, you might as well give up: The defenders know perfectly well where you are and will shoot you the second you try anything funny. Avoid this situation, it only costs valuable armour.
- Don't hide in cover, waiting for something to happen. MAKE A PLAN, GROUP UP AND ATTACK!
- Once you are inside, it is a good tactic to run along the rim of the area, as you avoid many defenders and turrets. Just storm ahead. Shoot at the defenders while running past them, but don't ever stop. Try to reach the nearest generator. You will surely die, but the time the defenders need to kill you is precious time your team-mates need to press ahead.
- Tactics for IS:
* It has turned out, a good tactic for fighting against Clan is to use ECM-covered spotters and massive LRM-bombardment to drive the defenders back, as Clan-Mechs rarely have AMS or ECM.
* Likewise, hunting down an ECM-covered light can keep up to a lance of defenders busy.
- Tactics for Clan:
* While the Clans lack the super-fast Mechs of the IS, Clan-Mechs are on average faster than IS-Mechs. Use this for a horde-attack.
