Yeah, but I wouldn't call that moon walking.

Moonwalking occurs when mechs are moving their legs but not going anywhere

Definitely a big difference between the animations that came out of the older mechs in the game, and all of these newer mechs.

Whoever is animating for MWO these days could be doing a much better job.

It's definitely apparent when the DW has speed tweek...
But it's more like this...
Posted Image

Also, Jesters walking backwards is basically the same. Foward they look great, but backwards... damn, no. I dunno if it's like that for all catapults.

Most of the clan mechs have pretty meh walking animations. I love how the Atlas, Stalker and Catapult walks. You could really see the weight in the step.

OP didn't have a Michael Jackson soundtrack in the video.

8/10

Btw, PGI is never going to fix this unless they can sell a "Premium Walking animation module" for 5000 MC.

maybe if they pump up the speed a bit or slow down the animation without touching the actual speed it would help. I feel like the animators animated the mech then the coders told them the speed and they just threw up their hands and said **** it.

The problem comes from having the hip axle fixed. That junction area needs to be allowed to yaw and roll.

+1 the original 4 founder mech walking animations are head and shoulders above the new stuff. And its not just the clans. The Highlander, Victor, AWE, etc are all old game entries and their animations are not as good are the "first four". I remember in CB when we were all commenting how the AWE looked like it walked like a geisha girl. tip tap tip tap tip tap.

beh.

But then, sneaking in, came the Battlemaster and for that ONE late entry mech they got it right.

The team that is doing these animations needs to be looked at. I mean hell they don't even bother to do the "dragging leg" animation for legged mechs anymore.

The front toe has small twitching even in mechlab (you have to be very picky to see it)

The arms also twitch like crazy when it is changing movement direction.

walking on a slope...lol:

Is it me, or is there a point at which the Daishi actually has both feet off of the ground during it's strut? Reminds me of that story of the Charger pilot that could get her mech to skip. I think it was a Charger, though for the life of me I can't remember her name.

It was Danielle Peterson in the Pretty Baby.

Trying to find a good link still.

Edit: Have this one.

The animation quality of 'Mech vary strangely a lot in this game. Some 'Mech have really smooth animations with their hips moving with each step (King Crab, Highlander, Banshee, Dragon, Catapult, Raven, Locust . . . ) and they're pretty immersive to look at. Then again you have these 'Mechs with incredibly stiff animations like the Centurion, Trebuchet, Kintaro, and Cataphract. It's a day and night difference.

Some people rationalize the stiff animations with arguments like "They want them to feel like tanks rather than anime mechas", but then you remember there are 'Mechs with incredibly smooth animations too. Not to mention that these 'Mechs have freaking artificial muscles. They're supposed to move smoothly.

Heck, even MechWarrior 3 still has much smooth animations.
