First off, i think the current fast drop into play by mechs from defending Drop Ships is ok as the defenders would need to get into the base to defend as quickly as possible. They also have defense turrets to aid them. But I think the attacking forces should have the options to hold up inside their drop ships for at least 4 to 5 seconds. Let the drop ships come in over the drop zone, and if you want to exit quickly, you can just as we do now. But if you are worried of the defenders spawn camping like we see so much of, let the attackers stay in the Drop Ships for up to 4 or 5 seconds and let the drop ship actually sit there and engage the spawn campers a bit longer to clear your drop.
In a real MW senerio like this, no Drop Ship commander with the firepower he has, would willingly drop a single mech into the middle of a horde like that. He would try and clear a spot first or scrub the drop and find a new drop location.
Also, if the fighting is extremely heavy, I think everyone should have the option to forgo the landing drop and cut their drop time in half by allowing us to "hot drop".
For those that don't know what a "hot drop" is. It's when a mech or mechs don't have a clear drop zone and need to drop into the battle from the drop ship by a much higher altitude. Mechs that have JJs can do this very easy. They drop from a few thousand feet and use their JJs to control their fall. Before hitting the ground, they use the JJs to soften the landing. Mechs like the Atlas and others that don't have JJs are equipped with drop packs that have jets on them that act as JJs would. Once they are on the ground, the drop back is detached and off they go.
Now this ability to drop into the fight by hot drop and cutting your drop time in half would still come with its draw backs too. Sure you are getting into the fight faster and in a cool way, you are leaving yourself a bit more defenseless as enemy mechs could target you as you are dropping into their weapon range. You can still fire back too but it's not the same protection of a drop ship.
Maybe hot dropping would somewhat allow for different drop areas instead of the same drop ship drop zones.
