And like a ******* I somehow spent 21k GXP instead of Mech XP on mastering a mech.

I hate it when that happens.

Or let me set a path for my effiencies to level with ahead of time so XP is distributed automatically. Just make it require less menu diving in general.

So you mean without the terrible UI it would be less painful?

But as one famous saying goes, "if it is worth something it is worth doing."

You may beable to prioritize what to level on your mech first but eventually you'll have enough XP to get everything. So being able to set some kind of XP distribution to save time and not to bother with checking mech XP/Leveling efficiencies would more less time in menus more more time getting into rounds shooting mechs.
Kinda another annoyance, I have to go into the cluttered UI to check on mech XP to figure out if I have enough to spend. Then finding out I don't have enough for anything only to hop back out and check again a few matches later.
Seriously if this was just some linear path it would just save time and let you get back into shooting mechs instead dickering with XP junk you'll eventually get all of anyways. Something they can certainly streamline as its dull needless busy work. Something thats only there to make you sift through menus and press a few level up buttons. Streamlining this wouldn't be the same as dumbing down, as theres not much thought or depth with mech trees in the end. Simply play enough to get XP and get all the skills/talents/efficiencies.

On the one hand, having an automatic assignment of XP for unlocking efficiencies would be neat and remove a lot of the UI2.0 hassle (although I am personally not fond of the idea of the game managing what order things are unlocked in, for example Arm Reflex costs less than Anchor Turn but is the last thing I unlock on any 'Mech).
On the other hand, more work and coding for the guys up top, plus I myself am fine with the menu grind (so long as my computer stays connected for the entire time I am trying to work the menus; lately something is definitely not working right and my computer keeps "unplugging" itself from my router).
So it really depends. If something can be done about it in a neat and orderly manner, I am all for it. Otherwise, we shall all have to suck it up.

There is a complete re-work due in to the different Mech's and there Skill Trees.
- Some there the efficiencies or skills don't actually have a function for some of the Mech chassis.
- Or there are items that should be included but are not, specific to that chassis type and it's use.
They were a global advancement for all chassis types back when we didn't have 100's of Mech's to Pilot.
- Now it requires changes or fine tuning for different class's of Mech's and should be tied to the 'Quirks' tree or actually incorporate some of these elements.
~ having to spend Xp on an item that is not even used in a specific Mech chassis is redundant and a waist of Xp.
PGI did state that this entire aspect was due for an update and fine tuning, and requiring a closer match to the Mech chassis and it's capabilities or hardpoints.
