Absolutely necro, but lets run with it...

I would like a few things for the Summoner...

An A variant with appropriate weapon quirks

the 3060 variants (if ATM's and Heavy Lasers can be appropriately functioning weapon systems):
The E 1 ERPPC, 1 ATM 12, 1 ATM 6
The G is a menace... 1 ERPPC, 1ERLL, 6 SRM4s, and one small Heavy Laser... 3 energy and 6 missile HPs...
The H is a variation of the D, but runs hotter... 1 AMS, 1 TC2, 2 Heavy LLs, and 2 ERMLs so heat quirks would be nice

Many focus on the fixed JJs and lack of Endo... these are fixed by the "Grand Summoner" (or Thor II) that is built in 3093
2 of the 5 variants have no JJs, most of the fixed structure are in the arms, so you can pack the torsos with weapons and strip the arms (if you wish). Total weight to play with (as is, before stripping armor): 30.5... which surpasses the T-wolf's 27.5 tons!

As for the OP, well, I have loved the Summoner in every other MW title and in the TT... they have been my staple for years... that said, I am still new to MWO and I only have the Loyalty Variants... I decided I wanted to support the game and purchased the Night Gyr and Marauder IIC... I like the Loyalty Summoners... a lot!!! (Well, minus the "Fembot mode", but, meh) Sorry to say this does not help the OP... I am Pro/Coning the Pryde as my third... and I am leaning yes. the Omnipods aren't much as they are, but I am expecting the quirks to likely be what makes it shine... and if not, using the CT will still earn the +30% C-Bills so I will just run with something like the D 4 ERLL sniper build.

I finally bought my 3rd Summoner (Prime) last night and I'm working through the Basics today. I have a 2xERPPC chassis (2xAMS and a ton of ammo, maximum armor round down slightly to fill the rest of the slots with heatsinks) and it's fun to run that 4xERL (but hot). The LRM/SRM builds... meh. I've had mixed success even with 4xMPLs or just 4xMLs. What I've noticed is I earn focus-fire the moment I get on the frontline. No matter how much armor I've got, it's gone in seconds the moment I show up among my larger buddies. Maybe it's just me, but I've learned to hang in the back (hence the long range preference).

But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to talk about the 2xGauss build that, so far, has worked really well. A Gauss in each torso with 6 tons of ammo and minimal armor. I only play in QuickPlay games really but the intimidation factor of a double-Gauss is just outstanding and I can do this at extreme range and still be helpful. Eventually it'll disappoint me, I know, but for now... it's a ton of fun. Well, like seventy tons of fun.

Happy Gaming!

Sorry for the double-post but I think another decent Summoner build may warrant it - I also have some success with the Prime arm and 3xERPPCs, though, again, it's with minimal armor and you have to watch heat. There's a lot to be said for hurling three electric globes of splashy death at an enemy 800m away. In short, I find my Summoners to excel at that sort of fire support/suppression role at long-range. You can make even the Assaults duck for cover momentarily... but, of course, you will die in a 1v1 against a competent Light pilot and the low arm mounts are a real turn-off for some, so I feel like it balances out.

Happy Gaming!
