I'm diving straight into it:
Reduce the number of planets and increase their influence on the CW map. Create a visual link/web between each planet, this is to ensure balanced game play, makes it easier for players to see what planets need to be attacked/defended. It also represents the 'travel distance' a drop ship can make and as a supply route.
Next, use the existing maps as various aspects of each planet. Each planet has cities, mineral deposits, foward operating bases, and military bases. This will reduce the need for PGI to create all new maps and it fits the metagame. I would suggest that there needs to be actual star ports which leads me to my next point.
Just like current CW where there are multiple engagements to determine if a planet is won or lost. The new system I am suggesting would be similar however before attackers can attack cities/refineries/bases/etc, they first need to attack the planets only star port to establish the supply route. After the star port is attached they can attack cities/refineries/bases/etc.
Lastly- play now should be an instant hot drop on battlefields. 1) players will still be be playing pug matches so PGI won't need to do a complete overhaul of the match making system, 2) increases over all participation in CW, and 3) make it were the outcome of the war is less certain due to the increased skill/talent pool.
These are just base suggestions to streamline CW for PGI and players. And I truely hope PGI and the players get behind these ideas!

There should be a way to pre-set two load outs of 4 mechs prior to starting community warfare. Many times if you select Defend then the match turns to counter Attack. People have different load-outs for Attack and defend.

There also should be no requirement that a drop must include 4 mechs (the minimum weight requirement is enough). If a player wants to drop three larger mechs without a fourth, they should be allowed to do so. Of course this may not align with what I believe is one of the primary drivers for CW... to encourage players (and force new players) to buy more mechs.

1. Don't like your own post. It looks needy.
2. You can see if it is Defend or Counterattack before you launch. You can even tell what map it is going to be on, if you know what to look for.
