Thank you for this thread OP. Maybe it DOES belong in the new player area.

I started playing this game when it was Closed Beta, so the release of a new mech was something special, we only had a few in those days. So I have been buying mechs all along the way and mastering the 3some as I go. Havent really made too many bad choices, but obviously, there are some I like better than others.

A NEW Player to this game (especially one that has no knowledge of BT or previous MW titles) could well take heed of your advice.

I suggest to that player, try multiple trial mechs and use them beyond your Cadet period. Spend a little $ on some Premium time if you dont have the award PGI gave us, or dont win some in an event, and save up some CBills trying different mechs until you find one(s) that fit you and your play style. Remember that buying the base mech will eventually cost you at least double to do the upgrades (if you are so inclined) and the weapons you want not to even mention modules.

It is sad to see a new player grind to his 1st new mech, spend all those CBills, buy a mech, upgrade it and then NOT like it. Trying several mechs and playing them will help you understand what fits the way you play. Please remember, BIGGER mech are not always better mechs if you cant use them correctly. An Atlas, Direwolf, Timberwolf and similar are usually priority targets in a game because they hold a lot of potential. If you are new and nor familiar with, say a Direwolf, you wont last long. If you BOUGHT one via CBills and die a LOT early one, you will be disappointed in your purchase. At the cost, it will take a LOT of grinding to get something else.

Take your time a chose something that fits you and your play style. Dont buy because Joe Pilot did 1200 damage with 4 kills last round...

Since I had 12 mech bays free and didnt want to ride the usual 30 mechs I always do I wanted to try something new yesterday.

I had 45 mill on spare, waiting for the king crab to come out for cbills but thought I could get other 3 mechs first and have fun while waiting for the king so I decided for the thunderbolts.

Now I am 25 mills poorer, still on my way mastering them but can't really say I love them. I like the 5SS very much, didnt bought the ERPPC one at all, since I dont like PPCs, but the other two are kinda ok....

the grind is really huge, I mean it took me 25 mills to upgrade them all to something useful and thats a lot cbills, which takes forever to gain.
