Only if you're face-hugging the target. Seriously, though, meatshielding for your teammates is much more useful in most cases than ejecting. You'd be surprised how many people continue to shoot a completely weaponless stick of a 'Mech, just to eke out that one more kill, all the while being blasted apart by the guy's teammates.

This. In CW if you're a stick you either scout or meatshield. You only eject if the arrival of the dropship + your fresh mech would be more of an immediate benefit to your team than either of those things.

Certainly newer players are more likely to do it, but even veteran players sometimes get so focused on a target they will continue to shoot it even when it has no weapons and they're getting hammered from 2 sides by the lance they *should* be shooting at.

Me, I'd take ejecting out altogether, but whatever.

It's kind of a necessity, though. If ejecting weren't allowed at all, smart players/teams would just strip a 'Mech and leave it alive so that that pilot becomes completely useless for the rest of the game.

Still, for myself, I only eject in two situations:
1. When Defending, and I'm in the wrong 'Mech for the situation (example: I'm in a 4LL Stalker and the enemy starts a light rush - I eject to get into a Light-Killer)
2. I'm WAY out of position (example: I'm in something slow, and have just held off enemies at one gate, but they've gotten through the other gate and are approaching Omega - I eject to get back into position as quickly as possible).

I NEVER eject when Attacking, because there's absolutely no reason to do so (unless something stupid happens, like my 'Mech gets stuck on terrain, or I get legged so far away from the fight that I'm already useless and wouldn't even be able to tank damage for my team).

You would be surprised how many times i've lost shots due to lack of situational awareness, or even just after taking a shot an ally move into my attack taking it to the back (happens most often when I am using the Trial Adder or Trial Warhawk and those ERPPCs)

As for knowing when the enemy has no weapons left, more often than not (at least for me) I am only glancing at the target information panel to see where their armor is weakest not what weapons are still active, I only glance because in the heat of battle I want to keep an eye on my surroundings to make sure that I am not spending too much time in direct sight of the enemy when I don't need to.

Diffidently agree with you, having the eject option is necessary because without it as an attacker all you would have to do is disable the weapons on the enemy mechs and then march into the base and take out the gens without resistance while the enemy pointlessly watch or even try to get into your line of fire in order to get a new mech, which at that point they could just spawn camp the defenders 1 at a time. On the flip side the defenders can knock out weapon systems and then just focus fire on the attackers one at a time while spawn camping the LZ.
