Why stick with planet changes for every 24 hours? Could we have three regions, each with 11-15 zone/sub-regions, on each planet? Whoever holds the "middle" region holds the planet. Every eight hours have a ceasefire and give the region to whoever holds the majority, as it is now for the planet.
The way this would play out:
Marik attacks Wazan in Davion space. After eight hours Marik holds the majority of region A. The fight moves to region B. After eight hours Marik holds the majority of region B. The planet is now owned by Marik and the fight moves to Region C and Marik is still attacking (Marik is driving out remaining Davion forces. After eight hours Marik holds the majority of zones in Region C. Davion now has to attack the planet and Marik has the opportunity to attack another planet. Wazan is now closed. Davion attacks Old Kentucky. After eight hours Davion holds the majority of Region A. The fight moves to Region B. After eight hours Davion holds the majority of Region B. The planet is now under Davion control and the fight moves to Region C. Davion is still attacking. After eight hours Marik still holds majority of the zones in Region C. The fight moves back to region B and Davion is still attacking and the planet still belongs to Davion. After Eight hours Davion still holds the majority in Region B and the fight moves to Region C again. And so it continues.
A faction can take a planet in 16 hours, but cannot attack another until it finishes driving the enemies out. So a faction can only attack a new planet every 24 hours. Also, every eight hours is a new ceasefire with something relevant about each eight hours.
This is just an idea, but I personally think it would be a fix to the problem of the dead hours, European time zones, and won't be having planets change hands too quickly. It would also be much more immersive and feel more like the effort of actually capturing a planet.
