Not all of the II-C mechs are compatible with this idea. Some were not 100% matched to the original chassis; Marauder II-C, for example, was a 100 Ton mech. IIRC.

Not nay-saying, just a point of order.

As much as I would love to see the IIC mechs, they come with a whole slew of issues; chief among them is how to balance them…

If the IIC variants are all Battlemechs, like there I.S. counter parts, that would mean that they would have engines that could be changed, options for Clan DHS (If they do not already have them), Clan XL engines (If they do not already have them), seven slot FF and ES (If they do not already have them) along with the smaller and lighter clan weapons. Or do they treat them as Omnimechs, thus limiting what can be done with them?

If they go the Battlemech route, than they render the Omnimechs near useless overnight, as why would you take a 75 ton Timber Wolf Omnimech. When you could take a 75 ton Orion IIC Battlemech that you could get extra free weight by dropping the engine size down? Why take a Dire Wolf, when you could have a King Crab IIC? And yes they do exist, a large stock pile of them left with Kerensky…

PGI already solved that issue.
It's in the post that describes the Omnimech rules.
It specifies "Clan and Inner Sphere OmniMechs" with a host of rules akin to what the Clan mechs have right now. As they are OmniMechs.
Specifics: Interchangeable Omnipods with preset hardpoints and quirks. Engine locked. Hardwired equipment locked. Heatsinks/structure/armor types locked. (Yes this means if the Omnimech comes with standard heatsinks it will be LOCKED with standard heatsinks!!!! <--They were VERY specific on this). Equipping ballistic weapons in the form of any variation of Autocannon or PPC will remove lower arm actuators. Lower arm actuators can be toggled when available. Hand actuators can be toggled when available.

It also specifies "Clan and Inner Sphere BattleMechs" with a host of rules akin to what the Inner Sphere mechs have now, as they are BattleMechs.
Specifics: Locked hardpoints. Can change heatsink / armor / structure type. Can change engine size and type. No hardwired equipment. Hand/arm actuators are LOCKED. Equipping a ballistic weapon of type autocannon or PPC will NOT remove the lower arm actuator.

PGI's been there and done that. Far as balancing that? What exactly are ya gonna boat with locked/fixed hardpoints? Oh no, a variant of Orion II-C with 1 ballistic, 2 energy and 2 missile! What ever will we do!? It's overpowered!

Most II-C mechs have Summoner-esque lousy hardpoints. Just don't hardpoint inflate them like PGI did with IS mechs, and I do believe all your issues are solved.

Just in case... it is yet another "case" that screams for the reinstatement of repair and rearm. Won't capitalize much on that endo steel if it costs an arm and a leg.

Or that XL engine.

Greetings all,

As has been stated these were 2nd line 'Mech's and only arrived 'in the field' after the Clans 'acquired' Planets that had IS manufacturing factories, retrained the IS tech's, retooled the Factory, and had parts shipped from Clan locations or facilities.
- All that took time, and wasn't started till at least the 4th wave of Clan assaults.
- These are new chassis, not modes of older versions, complete rework of the frame design and normally heaver and larger.
(you cannot 'upgrade' a normal IS version to a IIc standard, it's a different 'Mech.)

I could see a use for them on locations in CW where a Faction attempts to retake a Planet that is not on the frontline, within the 30LY jump distance, but not occupied by 1st line 'Mech's.
(that dual AC20 Hunchy is still a very evil 'Mech to turn the corner on and face down.)

Aim True and Run Cool,
9erRed

The clans started building IIC mechs in 2841 starting with the Orion. Then built IIC Hunchabcks and Commandos in 2856. Highlander IIC in 2858. And then the Jenner IIC in 3042. http://www.sarna.net...eMech_Timetable Those mechs were rebuilt but are still the same tonnage. Other mechs were built but they are different tonnages than the IS counterparts.
