I know most Clanners are pinning their hopes on the Viper to "finally get a fast Clan Mech".

And indeed, it would be that. But if you look to the Summoner/Hellbringer and the Timber Wolf/Mad Dog, you will see what the Viper's achilles heel is.

Russ is convinced that the legs are modular (They are a modular design, but pretty obviously, the Mad Dogs are Std Internals, that weigh 6 tons, whereas the TWF is Endo and weigh 4 tons, so modular but not identical design), and thus, 100% the same size, regardless of tonnage or armor differences. On the SMN/HBR it is not too noticeable, as they are only 5 tons apart, but on the Mad Dog, the legs are noticeably 15% too large, all things being equal, because they are the exact legs from the TW Model.

Well, the Viper shares the leg model, traditionally, with the Nova. Yeah, that gem of scaling perfection. Which says, even if they get the torso and the rest of the scaling to more correct cicada proportions, the legs will be massive, and easy to hit. And thus, the Great Hope, will become just another chapter of the Great Hype, unless we can convince Russ that the legs (and the rest of it) need to be very small for it to have any viability.

expect a monstrosity like this

The viper won't really add anything, though.

That's what you really want. An arctic cheetah.

Sir All due respect... The Viper is a POS on TT so will likely be the hitreg poster child of OPness! The Spider is a PoS on TT, the Catapult is respectable the Dragon is ok

For Clan Mechs The Timber wolf is the Icon The Dire Wolf is the end all beast Omni (I kill em in droves with a Stone Rhino though) A Stormcrow is a solid go to omni... That they are good here should never have been in question. But the Viper... Thin skinned little pod weight... not a bunch you can do with it.

Way to completely be out of touch with both the argument, and the point.

Can't help it you are not happy with my opinion. Not my concern and the point stall stands, as crappy as it should be it will likely soar with the eagles here.

Well, it would add something better than the Fridge, for less tonnage.

As long as it's not the size of a Nova. Leg design could be an issue, and while large arms could be annoying, might be a decent thing. It has 5 torso mounts, which would be fine.

Both are what might almost compare to IS lights. Geometry being the downsides, along with hotter than hell Clam lasers. Cheetah still loses a TrueDub.

If we were nobody would use the Spider unless they drew the short straw or wanted to save a Noob from a bad Mech!

if your opinion remotely bothered to get the point of the OP, and the published facts of how the Omni Models are being done, no, you'd realize how silly it is.

At least Vassago brings a counterpoint, but he too misses that while people have been begging for the Arctic Cheetah, just as many want the Viper for the mobile medium slot.

You sir, instead, just rattle off your armchair TT General reasoning, and expect it to hold water in an FPS.

But the Viper is a Medium and the Arctic Cheetah is a light so...

Exactly. You see the issue. My OP is pointing out the elephant in the room that already has been demonstrated in their OmniMech modeling. The Viper could be a very useful fast Medium for the Clans, but only if it isn't trapped in HitBox Hell with Nova legs.

Well, since we're talking about Vipers (and I loooooove that one, btw--one of my favorites), I've got probably thousands of hours in one of these. I'm quite fond of it, actually:

But the one I'm flying in Elite is very capable.

Hmmm that would be seriously terrible if it did share legs with the Nova.

also, any sci-fi nut worth their salt prefers the REAL Colonial Viper to those silly retreads.

New BSG was overall better in most ways...but the original ship designs of the old BSG were generally much better. The Viper, Raider and Battlestars, especially. (Though the new Pegasus was OK)

Thing about the Viper is that it is fast, and has alot of possible E hardpoints with omni pods fully maxed, something we dont have for Clan's yet. So your TT stance is pointless, and it will be good for other reason's.
