Actually I was looking at the Grand Dragon today. The DRG-5K would itself be a nice variant to round out the DRG variants we already have. It has an energy based RA instead of ballistic, just like the Flame does, however, the fact that it can mount at least 1 energy in both side torsos can also give the DRG a high mount snipe on both sides. That and it also comes stock with a 360XL (maybe could even have a max engine cap of 400 for S & G's to recall back to the Dragon Bowling days lol)

As for the DRG-1G, which is the 'original' Grand Dragon, it has the same weapon placements, just a normal PPC rather than ER, and would be slower as it uses a STD engine stock. However, to make even this variant viable, could either add at least one missile hard point into one of the side torsos (keeping the CT one thats present on all DRG, giving the DRG a mini LRM boat variant) or moving the CT hardpoint to the torso.

This is an odd case of a good thread to necro.

I still want Grand Dragons.

Remember he isn't a simple mechwarrior. He is like me, a UrbanWarrior.

We see mech for more than there side, but we see there nature and there power.
We tolerate the Raven of the Liao, the Atlas of the SLDF, The Dire Wolf of the Clan Wolf.... And even the Flea of whoever made it. :P

one that really wants a base 97 kph 60 ton IS mech with pew pew and swoosh swoosh? Posted Image

And figure it'll be easier to get that than the Lancelot. (which also is minus the swoosh swoosh, but has hoverjets in some models to compensate)

I think both the Dragon and Commando would be a hard sell as a special edition or hero (anything exclusively for MC really).

If it wasn't difficult to make the updated versions, then maybe PGI could release them as a gift mech. A special camo as gifts and a then release a non gift version for MC/C-Bill a few months later.

DCMS also has Ravens, although admittedly Liao gets credit for designing/producing them I suppose.

Yup.

Now the question remain: When do we get the MAKO?

that's kinda what I was hinting at to Russ. that said, the DRG-5K is a 97 kph 60 tonner, which could very well have it's place. especially if one gives it like... 3 E-hardpoints in the RA.

If they fix that Dragon arm so it's pointed out like it is in the pictures...

that would be awesome.

Love me some Dragons, I own all 5

If there was one with energy points in both shoulders it would be a decent hill-poker

True, since the Grand Dragon is essentially the Dragon without the ballistics options and very little cosmetic difference. I would imagine it would be rather easy, (comparatively), to put them in the game.

Dragons do seem to be in a better place since the hitbox adjustment, although they feel somewhat anemic in the firepower department. The Grand could potentially alleviate that, especially if it got some hard point inflation. And my alter ego is Kurita, so naturally I wouldn't be mad to see another Draconis mech in the game Posted Image

360xl, max armor, 2 LPL in the high torso mounts, and about 4 MLs in the arms with about 14 DHS. Sounds fun.

The only Mako I know of is corvette class warship, so unless he's indirectly asking for Aerotech, color me confused.

Yeah, with that kind of speed and firepower it could be a good skirmisher/brawler. Running a similar build on my MAD-5D and with a 360 XL, only with 2 LRM5s, 3 LPLs and 2 MLs, I was able to get 4 kills on it because its speed and mobility allowed me to exploit opportunities I couldn't have otherwise. I can only imagine a faster Dragon with a load out like that could be quite effective.

Remove the arm actuator from the normal Dragon - make the arm like it was supposed to be!
Posted Image

Then make the Grand Dragon with the full arm (so just keep the current one, thought i was pretty clear on that, but whatever), like it's supposed to be!
(Stats be damned)

like it's supposed to be?

both official TRO images of the Grand Dragon seem ot have elbows.....

whereas the DRAGON.....

did not... at least in that one single illustration.

Or Duane Loose just drew it with a raised arm, and like most of his drawing, actually illustrating joints was optional.

Well, that's what i meant, give the Normal Dragon the raised/Jagermech arm, keep the jointed arm for the Grand Dragon. (I'm pretty sure there's not a single Dragon TRO illustration or miniature that had a jointed arm, all of them have the raised shoulder mount thing)

On another note, Grand Dragon seems to be always portrayed to have humanoid hands as opposed to Normal Dragon's claws

Grand Dragon, yes. But, not with the huge gorilla arm.

Every time I look at my Dragons in inventory, I think of this:

I am fully behind anything that gets more Commando variants into the game.

Even with my current spending hold due to lack of CW development - I WILL PRE-ORDER COMMANDOS!
Add them all I say, add them all!!!

If the chassis were viable, yes. Otherwise, they'd just be a potential C-Bill sink for new players or collectors. I believe the present presence of Commandos and Dragons should clearly communicate how desired additional variants are.
