Pardon me if this has been talked about a lot before. I don't venture onto these forums that much.
Despite dropping into lances, there's never been a point in them since everyone just groups together as soon as they can. The ONLY time I've seen a single lance fight a lance is on conquest which happens for me once in a while. My lance decides to take a point that coincidentally has the enemy lance trying to take the same point so it becomes a 4 on 4 battle with maybe 1 or 2 people joining in. Usually happens on Terra. It's actually a lot of fun and feels very different from the usual mosh pit of everyone fighting in one area all the time. Plus people aren't afraid of getting multiple gausses/ppcs to the face.
If we are going to drop into lances I was wondering how to we could have more lance on lance combat. Just to have some variety in matches. Obviously we would need bigger maps. But I was thinking what if lances on a team didn't all drop together neatly on one side?
For simplicity's sake, let's take skirmish. One example is, one lance from each team drops into the South end and the North end, with the third lance on one team in the West and the other in the East. So when the match starts, the lances on the north and south end have to fight each other with the third lance on each team having to choose a side to help or even splitting up to help both ends or meeting their counterpart for 3 lance on lance battles, whichever. Then depending on the outcome whoever is left tries to help allies or fight whoever is remaining on the enemy team.
Not sure how this works on current maps, just spitting out a random idea here. Thoughts?

Won't work. The Light Lance could just run away from the fight and then you have the group of 12 again.
The side with more guns able to fire on target wins, all else being equal. As long as kill each other is the primary objective (and it is in all current modes outside CW), the smart move will always be to group up and crush the enemy with numbers.
To change this behavior and get smaller fights, you'd have to change the maps and the game modes. Conquest would be easiest: you'd need to make the maps huge and have a lot of distance between cap points. Add in repair/rearm/respawn with a high cap limit and you'll get big, long games like you found in MW:LL. Teams will have no choice but to split up or they'll get out-capped.

Won't work until they fix the screwed up spawn system in Conquest. Going to "cappa" (pun intended) with the light lance when suddenly enemy assault/heavies show up instead of lights.
I like the idea, but if this is to work, it has to be light vs light, med vs med, heavy vs heavy and assault vs assault, it will not work if its assault vs light. Also, I don't think it will work in the current maps, so new (and hopefully) dedicated maps will be created for these
