Hi everyone!
I abruptly stopped playing MWO shortly after Gauss Cannon had to be charged to be fired. I forget when this was implemented but my guess is at least 12 Calendar months? I was very upset because I felt it rendered my Flame somewhat useless at the time. Altho 4 ML and a AC20 fixed my blues. Anyways, I haven't played since that time, and I am basically a newb again, It was 12v12 last I played. What if you guys could sum up, is/are the most important or new features in the game? Thanks ahead of time!

Many things changed, and others did not.
Those i recall are CW phase 1-2 are out, some mechs received quirks, clan mechs are mostly purchasable with cbills. Factions are chosed in game as part of CW.
PPC velocity for IS and Clan dropped. Arty strike is more spread out now. Master tier skill has been changed to match weapon modules. Weapon modules provide CD and extra range.

Well the clans have invaded the inner-sphere, war is raging between all factions, politics aside.
The clans come with fearsome weapons and mechs but while they are amazing in the hands of a capable pilot and their stats are great on paper, they have many drawbacks that only clever mechwarriors know how to exploit.
Several new IS mechs are coming soon and many more have been released since youve played.
Quirk system has given under performing mechs individual bonuses to bring the numbers of people playing those mechs up, For instance the cicada 3C has a quirk that allows you ti fire a ERPPC faster and farther than almost any other mech.
other mechs have more interesting quirks, experiment for yourself to see what mechs you used to think were trash but are now quite deadly!
Also in order to participate in Community Warefare you must either take a contract with a faction, or permanently align yourself to that faction
If you wish to play for the clans you must possess clan mechs, these are rather expensive cbillwise.
The new CW map of the innersphere is dynamic and everchanging, when you drop onto a planet you will quite litterally drop out of a leopard class dropship along with 3 other pilots, and 2 other dropships of 4 mechs in each.
You will be either defending or assaulting an orbital cannon that is defending the world. you will get 4 mechs to choose from and drop with. you can eject and drop into a different mech if you choose. once you lose all 4 you are done.
Naturally these games are longer as they are 48 vs 48 mechs instead of 12 v 12
however NATURALLY these games can be extremely high paying matches and its not uncommon to make a million cbills on a single CW match.
CW is in beta and as it stands there is only the orbital cannon mission and 2 maps for it, a hot and a cold one. this is a BETA mind you so expect more content as time goes on.
Oh and PGI bought themselves out of IGP so they have been doing a lot better with us, and are releasing updates and content far more rapidly than before.
New maps in the pug game as well. pretty neat ones to.
Finally i recommend you join Davion, get a mic, TS3 and head on over to http://22ndargylelancers.enjin.com/ we are recruiting.

welcome back
the biggest changes in the last year are:
UI2.0
the entire user interface has had an overhaul, unfortunately the graphical upgrade it received was not an improvement.
Clans
there are at current 13 Clan Mechs in game, with a few exceptions (Stormcrow and Timber Wolf) they are not overpowered compared to IS Mechs, they usualy have longer weapon duration (longer laser beam, burst fire ACs, stream fire LRMs) in exchange for lighter weight and more damage.
Quirk pass
the initial Quirkining gave the majority of IS Mechs some weapon specific quirks, in a lot of cases this has taken a Mech which previously was considered bad and much improved it, some Mechs which no-one ever used are now considered some of the best in the game, quirks will be an ongoing process with movement quirks planed for the IS Mechs then the Clan Mechs will get the same treatment.
Community warfare
The Invasion game mode has arrived, each player can take 4 Mechs with a combined weight between 160 and 240 tons, they then fight for control of a planet, when 1 Mech is destroyed that player gets to chose another, the games can last up-to half an hour, each battle is fought over a zone, at the end of the day if the attacker holds more than half the zones they take the planet, and a new list of planets open up for attack.
for CW you will be better off as part of a unit, as larger groups find a match faster and there is no matchmaking beyond ensuring both sides have 12 players so a group of 12 individuals could end up against an elite 12 man team with voice comms, obviously in that situation the individuals will not stand much of a chance.
if you liked your old unit you may as well stick with it, however if you are in the market for a new unit check out the recruitment forums here:

I recommend against making a unit choice before visiting several units websites.
there are lots of other changes but those are the main ones.

The big issues that need to be addressed are Clans and CW, and a close third is "mech quirks".
Clan mechs were added last June. They're fast, well-armed, and Clan weapons are lighter and longer-ranged. Their Clan XLs let them survive even after losing one side torso, so kill the CT, both torsos, or legs.
CW pits 12 players vs 12 players with four mechs each, allowing you to respawn 3 times if your mech is disabled. your "drop deck" is limited to 260 tons, so choose wisely.
IS mech quirks have given many IS mechs some very large buffs when using certain weapon types and certain specific weapons. This has given some less-favourable mech variants/chassis some new life, and created some very powerful builds to help the IS fight the Clans.

Lubing up and/or being very accepting of the incoming **** would be an important feature for a returning player.

Also, less in-game but good to know:
PGI is doing better since they parted ways with IGP. Things have been, in a general consensus, getting better quickly.
Main gripe now is that CW is 'lacking'(ist in Beta...which was a surprise launch) and that CW is 'unfair' to the solo player.
PGI ststed that MWO was to be a bit MMORPG-shooter type thing with 12man units and Faction warfare as its goal.
I guess some didnt receive the memo?
Welcome back.
