I agree that there are really good pilots out there but the cursor movement is what was suspicious to me. It jumped to locations on the screen rather than being moved.

What you see while spectating and what actually happens on the player's screen are two entirely different things.

I've seen a friend spectating me while I played next to them at a LAN, and the results were so different that they could be considered a fairly tale.

Think of spectating as someone else telling a story that someone told them.

Well, I hope that the banning of 64 accounts has helped convince a number of players to stop their cheating ways, or has been a good enough example to deter players from thinking about using hacks.

Unfortunately from what I read around these forums the hacking/cheating software was patched in order to stop PGI from detecting such software.

I would assume that PGI will be examining this software themselves in order to find another detection method and maybe smart cheaters are going to be more careful in when and how they use it.

If you reasonably suspect someone of cheating report them. MWO Support is likely be creating a new list of potential cheaters of which they will examine their game play (and or pc) to identify whom is innocent (just good player) or whom are guilty.

Hacks are out there, thinking otherwise is just being ignorant. BUT, I am not going to get paranoid about them and start accusing players whenever I die to luck/skill, my own silly move or when I see someone get 5+ kills in a game. I do have my video software already to go if I do think something strange is going on.

The sky is not falling fellow players.

Cheers!
Eboli

You wonder how much resources are going to be diverted from core development just for the cat and mouse game. This game and its ecosystem is already like that poor gaunt stray dog that is malnourished and dehydrated and the fleas are still draining its blood.

I hate to say this, but you may have been betrayed by your own teammates. Was there a teammate with the same unit tag as the 2 enemy mechs? It is possible your position was given away through teamspeak. I would like to think the MWO player base is better than that, but some people will stoop to anything.

I can't remember if in my team was any of them. However, considering that it was during the challenge and one of the top dogs once said in general chat instead of team chat to focus on the Oxide (I was a measly rank 36 and he was one of the top 10 at that time and therefore I found this behaviour hilarious) your argument makes sense. No sportsmanship it seems...

I don't think the bann of the 64 has doen anything to persuade the hacker users from not using them. In another thread here it was reported that at least some of the 64 are back again and using the same stuff as before, so no learning at all.

I doubt PGI can really curb hacking or cheating. I don't blame them though because I think it is a resource problem.
Sometimes, though, I wonder about human psyche. What do you gain by winning due to e.g. an aimbot? All victories are hollow. If I do something well or land a good shot, I can pat myself mentally on the shoulder. Ah well, the bliss of self-deception I suppose

Yesterday I had this odd game on Canyon Network where I took my Cicada around to the enemy flank while their team was moving in on on our team's position. As soon as I peeked I got my CT destroyed by double Gauss from a whale that was seemingly randomly looking in the opposite direction from all the other mechs around him as if he knew I was coming around from the rear. I was not in LOS of any enemies as I approached and the range must have been at least 600m, so there is no way anyone could have picked me up on their radar.

I guess it could have been a fluke combined with a great shot, but I really wondered why he was looking backwards while his team was pushing forward. I represented the only enemy activity behind their formation and I had not made my presence known until that moment.

That's what I do rather frequently in my DW, especially when I spawn in a bad spot and fare away from the team. There are always a few lights/mediums who try to flank especially on Canyon Network which doesn't have that many bottlenecks in its layout. I guess this was just someone how did a similar thing.
