I wish there were greater penalties for damaging your team mates. Enough of a penalty that it hurts the pocket book. A team kill should keep you from getting positive c-bills from a match.

Some team kills are due to dumb arse team mates running in front of a friendly assault during full barrage. they should be penalized equally as much but good luck working that out.

Here is an in between report from me again...

Games on Friday and Saturday:

51 matches (time spent about 9 hours 45 minutes), 23 wins and total points accumulated: THREE! :( i have my premium time, but getting the Mech is impossible with average time for a single point being around 3 hours. Can I please have my ELO permanently lowered to 0? Pretty please? And no, I am not joking / trolling. :(

When I complained about the previous (Victor) challenge, I really did not expect that I could go from really bad to even worse than before... :( What is even more mind-boggling is the fact that I am usually not the lowest scoring member of my team... So some people at least occasionally get even less done than I do... *scratches head* Oh well, back to play a few more games so that my premium time does not go entirely to waste...

Good luck to all!

Damn...this is like flogging a dead horse! The fun has stretched into monotonous grind. Good kills and assists are all for nought when the team fails. At one stage, I was on sitting on 11hrs of play with 11 points ! If I don't carry on, my progress will have been for nothing though. 13 points to go. Must...go...on lol

the issue is people grinding, I see people running for kills and then getting wrecked pointless, which is of course having a negative impact for the team and then you have more losses than usual.

if they would play as usual it would not feel like a grind and it would also probably work better.

No, it isnt... it is a lottery.
A challenge is a "contest" that you "beat" when you are good (enough).
This is a "contest" that you "beat" when you get lucky enough.

If this gave a point for every match with a matchscore of atleast X (80-100?) than it would be a challenge, because the matchscores lies purely in the players own responsibility (and -on a side note- actually encourages good game play of everyone instead of grieving in form of team killing, kill stealing and whatever)

I have played several different ones, most loadouts heavy on various lasers and / or PPCs. However, the main issue seems to be that when I get lucky, my team fails and when my team wins, I mostly end up with assists only or get blown to pieces before I get enough done. Just to emphasize how random things are (for me). I have now played 3 more games on a stock Warhawk (my teams won all 3), 2 of which qualified.and in both cases I fired the literally last shots of the matches, getting the final (and only) kills for me.

I understand the frustration of some players - it can seem like the PUGs are just out to make you mad. If I failed to get a point in three games in a row I stopped for an hour and took a break, (made lunch for the family, walked the dog, read playboy..etc). Just remember the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different outcome each time - so maybe you can change your play to better affect the result ??? just an idea is all :D

ERescue - You are changing mechs too much so you can not find a good rhythm. I used only a Kintaro GB with 4 lrms 5s and 3 med lasers, (std 270 I think, about 84kph). Play was basically support every engagement with lrms and once out of missiles hit and run with the lasers. Kills were got during all phases and I stood down once the win was secured, (8-5 or better). Couple of games I got multiple kills, but overall if a pilot got over 200points they generally had a kill.

Yeah my performance has taken a massive dive in the last 2 and a bit hours...and no more wins in that time. Hate to think what this is doing to my KDR lol.
Time to get some sleep and hope I can make the remaining points tomorrow before it ends.

I'd like to tell you that I have completed the challenge successfully, using only the solo PUG queue. No group queue, no sync dropping - just as one solo player.

If you try harder, you may win your Cataphract.

Actually, I have been pleasantly surprised that the number of LRM-boats is much lower than expected. If you play smart and show some effort to help your team to win a game, then it's not too difficult to get a qualifying game.

When you say "no doubt" and "your plan to retain new players", etc. do you have any proof that it was PGI's plan? Could you post an official quote saying that? I'd like to read it on my own.

Because otherwise I must take it as your personal unbased assumption.

1) I will tell you a secret: Thanks that Premium time you can earn enough C-Bills to buy that Cataphract. Naturally, it won't be the Champion Cataphract, but only the standard CTF-3D Cataphract, but for all practical purposes both 'Mechs are identical.
Even if you don't win that Cataphract, you are not losing C-Bills - actually, you are making more and more C-Bills in every game thanks that Premium Time.

2) This is Challenge: C-H-A-L-L-E-N-G-E. Not Giving Out.

The entire point of a challenge is to be - you know - challenging.

Once I read in the newspaper that children in some Western nations are so accustomed to get medals just for "taking a part" in various competitions that they often get very angry and upset if they somehow end playing a game where rewards and prizes are based on actual skill and effort.

--snip--

Its honestly not really a challenge, its a grind. With W/L being around 50% that is about 60 matches or about 10 hours of play on a week end ... even if you are a great player and carry your team each time that would take around 45 matches, its still around 8 hours.

Granted anyway they put it events will be grindable in such a way but at least the "kill + win + survive" meant that you did need skill & be a teamplayer to earn it.

Funny thing when you think about it. the CTF-3D (C) + mechbay is about 5300 MC or roughly 22$. if rather then playing those 10 hours you'd work at minimum wage (at 7.25 $) you would make 72.50$ and be able to 2 of them and still have some change left...

For the rest I had a memorable match where our team wrecked them with 6-7 of us left. The last Stalker was an afk. We all politely asked if everyone had had his kill which we all did. We then dismembered him and had our armless King crab ram his last leg to death for 5 minutes (tho because ramming isn't really effective we shot it off at the 15 seconds mark)

@Markoxford: I really appreciate the advice. :) However, you are obviously a far superior player compared to me... Because in the games I play, 8-5 odds mean absolutely nothing at all. In one extreme example from Friday, I died early, but my team was doing well... until the game was 9-2... then everything went to pieces and my team lost, the last 2 foes taking out NINE Mechs between themselves. Of course, numerous units had heavy damage, but in the end the enemy Atlas and Dire Wolf were still barely on their feet, while nothing more than burning wrecks remained of my side...

And ask yourself if you are good enough? Do you help your team to victory with two, three or four kills? Or do you stay behind somebody and then jump in front of him to steal his kill? And then wonder why the team has lost the game?

Many people seem to forget that getting a kill is only half of the challenge - doing your best to ensure the team victory is the other half of the challenge.

I am nobody's judge.

My personal opinion is that if even such bad player as I am has been capable to complete the challenge successfully, then the challenge can't be too difficult.

Challenging is one thing, but these rewards bring out some awful players.

I think I higher percentage of panic, desperate, frantic players.

I have seen however more players asking if everyone got their kill while hunting down the last one or two mechs.
If I get my kill, I do my best to leg maim or cripple and back off hoping that will allow someone else to get it.
If my mech or a team is threatened...just pour on the heat till it stops being a problem.
I'll also hang back after I get mine increasing suppressing fire...cause their WILL be tryharders spraying wildly hoping to get a kill.

the secret is have no expectations, simply play hard, and smarter than normal.
I may or may not get the mech. but i've made a ton towards buying some modules with the freemium
Check your stats, find a mech that has a higher than normal win to loss ratio for whatever reason and take that.

as to the challenge......I agree with those who've said the BEST ones we get are where its team score.
Certain # of matches with 50 to get premium
more # of matches with 50 get..whatever
high # of matches with final match score 80 or higher to get really fancy whatever.

and lastly, if I get stomped 2-3 times...I quit, log out, do something come back, I DO believe ELO will get you stuck in a loop of lose.

Got the 'Phract yesterday evening local time. Took about 82 matches (didn't really count twice, so might 1 or 2 off in either direction). So thank you PGI for the premium time (which i actually like more then the 'Phract) and the 'Phract. :)

Played for about 4 hours friday night and yesterday 6-7 hours altogether I think. And I am surely not the best Mechwarrior around, so it's certainly doable without what I'd consider insane amounts of time (24hrs+).
