I, unfortunately, will not be one of these awesome individuals who managed to achieve this....this....2nd most stressful event I think I have ever took place in. The last one was horrid. This is a good second, and it isn't because of not getting kills or assists. I managed to squeeze out a kill just about each match, and then proceeded to help leg, disarm other mechs just so others can earn points.

The problem I faced with my 22/30 points, were people just standing around, out in the open, or those that just blindly lemming into the enemy ranks.

Friday, I managed to earn about 9 points....all day. Saturday, I managed to earn 11 points, a decent day. Today, on this glorious Sunday....2 points....all...day....long.

I have no praise for this. I have no harsh words. I just have utter disgust.

Sorry for the negative post on everyone's pretty posts.

I'm done. I spent every free minute I had this weekend grinding this challenge. I only got 12 points. Much like the Victor challenge it's been a frustrating mess. I guess I shouldn't have expected completing it anyway since in the end I could only squeeze in 35 matches before work, sleep, or other obligations. Really though the worst part of it all was how tantalizingly close a lot of the matches were that ultimately were a loss. One hard fought match ended with our last three broken mechs going up against a limping Orion and a nearly full health Direwolf. Then on frustrating side of things there were instances of kills being denied by the enemy. Several times I saw nearly cored mechs overheat and a few team kills. I don't want the challenges to be overly easy like the Centurion Challenge was. But this, I don't plan to do this again.

Thanks I guess for the premium time but I don't think I'll be using the rest of it. I'm burnt out after this weekend.

Done. Finally.

It was tough, especially when I skipped Friday. And this final stretch was rough. But it wasn't as rough, or game altering as the Victor challenge. It only took me 61 matches in total, so, I guess I'm about average.

If I had to change it, I'd drop it to maybe 25 instead of 30, but otherwise a decent, tough challenge.

Thank You PGI for the freebie.

Managed to do it in 73 games.

Had some really great games and then some terrible ones were we should have won but the other team made a superb recovery. Some really great close games aswell where it could go either way with only a couple of mechs left each.

Highlight game for me was the rest of our team getting taken down apart from my lance and we managed to pull it back for the win against 10 mechs, was some great communication and that was in a PUG game. Really enjoyed that game.

The last point took me 8 games to get, was pretty much 3am when i switched off. Already have the mech but wanted to complete the challenge as i didnt finish the victor one.

Edit, Done most of the challenge with a stormcrow and hunchie 4P, that thing is awesome now with the quirks. could have mastered it twice with amount of XP i earned doing the challenge.

I gave up on the Victor challenge, which was MUCH harder. You had to survive the match. In this challenge I found that, I would make sure I racked up some assists, just shoot at several enemies a little, and then pick one poor soul and run him to ground - sometimes putting myself in a bad spot doing it and dying. Yes, I did kill steal a few times, twice I believe, both times in my locust. I also avoided shooting when I had my kill, and it was obvious that we were winning.

Playing with the Falcons and just playing, I have learned a lot about this game. And I have 3 decades of BTT experience. There is a LOT of stuff to learn and the difference between an effective 'Mech and a pathetic 'Mech is significant. And what is effective can change with each patch and what people tend to play. So much clan stuff isn't as effective anymore. PPCs and Ultra AC's are basically direct fire LRMs doing scatter damage. Sure you yellow every spot on the enemy but they don't go down!

The question PGI has to ask is if they want a game with such a high learning curve.

I did the challenge in about 70 games and I honestly think it made me a better player. I was forced to be aggressive. You wing someone, you chase them down and finish them off. You don't duck back and avoid fire to get your next good shot. However, I over extended lots. I'd chase some fellow and turn a corner and face 6 enemy 'mechs. So it also gives you an appreciation for thinking and planning. Sometimes you CAN get out of that situation. You torso twist and go for the nearest cover.

What really helped; The SECOND I died, or the game was over, I left the match, grabbed a new 'Mech and moved on. I didn't think about the loss. I moved on right away. I tried to not make the same mistake. I didn't stick around and complain. It made the grinding faster.

My advice to everyone is to find a team and it they don't spend time teaching you, find another team.

I'd love to see officially stats on how many people out of the entire playerbase and the ones that participated actually got the 30 points.

I would wager heavie money its below 30%.

And I would love to see their elo in comparison to those who struggled.

and its clearly below 30% I would say because there are porbably many people who did not participated with intention to make the 30 points at all. But I would like to know how many matches those people making it needed and what their elo is.

and everoyne saying its rng is wrong as well, because this challange is not pug only, you cna alos go to the group queue.

Well just finished despite telling myself I didn't have time this weekend. Stayed up too late.

I wish I could send a message back in time to my past self... "It's not worth it!"

Edit: Took me 64 games in the solo queue. Best winning streak was 5 in a row.

Edit2: Done with AS7-BH and BLR-1G(P) for profit. Both wub builds.

I played some matches. I didn't care at all! I don't think I won a single match out of those matches, but I dunno, I didn't stick around after being destroyed.

Don't see how people can be stressed out by this. All it does is give you a mech that you will now need 2 more like to start grinding away at for modules, weapons, upgrades, skills and so on. I mean sure, you could've sold it, but I guess if you played 80 matches or whatever you probably made a lot of cbills in those 80 matches with your premium time. So it's all good... you won, either way. Unless of course you don't enjoy playing the game. In which case, the question of why you were playing comes to mind.

All these challenges do is bring out the missile boats. Thats the only way most of em can get a kill

Zed - I agree there was a lot of cheesy stalkers and cats out there and the quality of play could be pretty poor. The inexperienced players tend to gravitate towards the assaults for the weapon loadouts as they don't yet know how to best maximize their playing style for a particular goal. They look up builds on the various forums not realizing that there is a tactical strategy that goes with it and then fail to execute effectively getting caught by a light, targeted by the enemy or becoming detached from the fight as they waddle around the map.

The only thing different for myself, from normal play, was the goal of getting a kill each drop so I did cheese a little with 4 x lrm5s and a cool down module to give a constant flow of missiles onto the target. This light load out enabled me to take a medium for speed and maneuverability which leads to surviability which leads to more time in the fight, (many times I would get in a pickle, but my std engine would hold and I lived to fight some more :)). As you know I am a veteran of many many fights so I have good situational awareness and some idea of what other players will do in most circumstances so I could react with the specific goal in mine, (like targeting an ongoing fight rather than constantly hit on an assault with missiles for a minimal chance of a kill).

Inexperienced players will become tomorrow's experienced players because of pilots like us showing them the way and, of course, the excellent community resources like metamech, smurfys, the android app, etc.... :)

The 3 victories for the premium time? Those you can do in 5-6 hours. The entire event? no chance at all. You need at least 70 or so games and you can't get those done in 5-6 hours.
And i personally have the feeling that it is actually easier to do this event solo in pug games.
So far i have done 80 games and 25 victories.
A mix out of group games and solo (3/4 group, 1/4 solo maybe). And the group games ranged from 3 people to 12 (mostly 3-5 people). The full 12 people games where actually those where i didn't get a single point.
This event is one of the most frustrating and almost impossible in only 3 days.
Halloween and christmas events where amazing.
The events where you had to get 130 points or so with kills/assists/damage/narc etc where fun as well.
This? only frustrating games that make you want to quit playing the game. Pretty much the entire weekend. Never seen so many useless pugs before

Just finished in a little over 21hrs/85 PUGs.
Used Kintaro's (KTO-18/KTO-19) for this giveaway, grinding from basic.

Thanks for the free mechbay & CTF. :)
Although the 'phract was only loaded with 3ton of LBX-10 ammo and NOTHING ELSE!

It used to be a great Mech. Back before Clans and before Quirks we used it in our unit with 2 AC10, 3-4 Medium laser and a 300XL. it was an amazing brawler. Fast, jump capable and all that. Together with a group of ac20+2 LPL Victors we surprised quite a few enemies when we suddenly showed up in their sniper formation during a time when ppc+ac5 was meta.
But since Clans, Quirks and several JJ nerfs the 3D is sadly nowhere near what it once was.
I now stopped trying as well. Almost 3 hours this morning and 1 victory is enough for me after the last 2 days. 25 was it for me

I kind of enjoyed the challenge (definitely much more than the "Victor") as you could play as a team and tank for your teammates fro example. This way you can protect them (for example you are weaponless but still with torso armour, and your teammate has weapons left, but open internals) while they cool down or line up a shot, even if this means you will die.

Id also like to add a plea to the general playerbase.... stop putting your damn ammunition in your legs.

I was usually playing together with 1 other player in our unit and we were trying to help each other out to get points (ie. free for all until one of us got a kill, after that we would only try to leg the opponents for the other one)... but we accidentally killed at least 10-15 mechs due to ammo explosion (Unknown has killed XXX) just by shooting legs.

Same goes for under weaponed mechs with XL reactors... What is the point of putting an XL reactor on a Jägermech with 2 LBX and 2 Small lasers... and no other weapons? And these were just some of the players we encountered on the opposing team... no idea about the terribad loadouts of the own team, but I doubt it would be very different when you see so many of them going down after a very short time into a new match.

Thx PGI for the most annoying event, but will you go further?
50 points, 60 Points or only 24 hours for 24 points?
Is this really good for your game, i doubt it.

I finished... Pretty sure I did around 100 games... Really wish there had been milestone prizes, like every 5 points you get 200k c-bills or something.

I had real life happen... 15 wins... too many matches... worst game play I have seen since beta.. .victor challenge was safer I think.

These really do NOT MAKE FOR GOOD HABITS OR GAME PLAY!!! Unless we are supposed to team shoot, **** your lance... and run around... hiding then killing then running away... shity builds and people just wanting to get points and quit.

Strats... **** no... just go die rinse repeat. The only way this could be fun is in groups or team play. Kill stealing and so on was so bad in the pub que.... also the worst players... I am still trying to figure out the concept of the MM system sticking a guy that admits to playing 4 days in my lance... my kdr and rating is not that bad... and yet after 2 years I have some dude with 4 days experience AS A GOOD IDEA for the MM , ELO system?? I know the good with a bad happens... but come on...

All in all I am glad this is over.. they **** the game up real bad and they need to rethink these.

I basically did what I did the last time to get the most benefit for the least hassle: I showed up during the last couple of hours of the Challenge, played 4 games, got 3 points and banked the 3 days premium time for levelling a 'mech in the future since I already have a mastered CTF-3D, 7 empty mechbays and 215 million cbills. I wonder if the King Crab is worth spending cbills on tomorrow... B)

That's a good thing. Still need 9 wins, so I'm thinking NO JOY.
Life is full of disappointments...this is one of them.

OTOH 3 days preimum time and a large Bag-O-C-Bill/XP's.
