Just curious if there's some serious Battletech lore I'm missing. My only memory of the Urbanmech was in Mech 2: Mercenaries where it was basically a beer can on legs and incredibly easy (and fun) to headshot.

Are people just excited because it is absolutely terrible and might be fun in the same way that shooting free throws with your eyes closed can be fun? Or is there something else?

Most of the excitement seems to have a sarcastic tone to it...although I could be completely wrong...I think it's just a part of the lore and people like new toys to play with.

Well, if you are asking those questions...then you dont know.

Urbie was a CHEAP solution for defense. It could do well, in BT at least, in crowded urban environments where there was lots of terrain to hide behind.

Think Locust but slow with a heavy weapon.

Looks like crap on paper but in BT try a 1 Atlas vs 5 Locust match. Atlas usually doesnt have a chance unless he gets favorable terrain.

Because its a good design, it is a niche mech from the original TRO, and its a challenge to play well, i'm sure i'll be cussing the air blue, and hating it until the exilte point, but this game needs a challenge, which normal game play doesn't bring.

Also only playing the best mechs with the most meta builds is so dull

Reading the lore on the UM- its top speed is 32KPH! I assume the devs wont follow the lore.... ;)

At the least it'll probably be better than the Locust.

Also, go play this :)

Because it is super slow (32kph), shaped like a trash can (bad hit boxes), invites R2D2 jokes, relies on a completely ammo dependent weapon system as a primary with low ammo (AC10), has no JJs, has light mech armor, and the biggest primary weapon is arm mounted in an arm with 28 armor.

HOWEVER, it does run a STD engine, and it will be able torso twist 360 deg in MWO according to Russ.

Don't they base max engine size off of the stock size? Even at double the speed it'll be too slow for a mech that size.

There will be even more excitement when every Urbie dies to CT coring and screams for 100% CT internal increase will be heard.

In MW4 Mercs, we used to play Urbie Dodgeball.
Strip all the armour off.
Load Long Tom 1 load of ammo
JumpJets
Solaris Arena of choice
Respawn for 30 mintues

Very comical to see 16 to 24 urbies jumping around launching Long Tom rounds at one another
(for those that never played MW4 with MechTech Mods, the Long Tom was arched weapon that took some time to learn to aim, not just a point and shoot)

Have a damn ball

Yes the Urbies were fun.
Urbie dodgeball was GREAT!

Because it's funny, and so bad compared to other mechs that it will be funny when it kills an Assault mech, Fantastic Tuesday style. XD

I'm not gonn get one, but...if they ever implement Solaris...I just might trial it.

So from all the descriptions: its a tiny slow mobile turret with a massive cannon.....even if you have 360 torso twist , unless you do something to its speed/or armour = its still a barrel shaped deathtrap..(still cool tho)

I think it's a joke a in the BT community. I don't understand the fascination either, but apparently PGI found this "joke" financially viable enough to produce one.

There's stuff like this all over the internet:
