Working of the post that suggested the breakdown of character development would start with a general choice of categories: Attacker/Defender, Command, and Recon. I have a suggestion for another category Specialist, this category would allow the player to focus his skills on one specific type of weapon or skill.
In example: Working of off a multi-layered build design each level the character advances he receives a development point, he can apply it to a general category of say weapons or Recon skills to increase the character ability by 5%. If he chooses to specialize he can purchase a specific skill lets say direct fire weapons only for an ability increase of 15%; or even more specific 20% for Lasers weapons only. The more specific the more the multiplier, of course it would need to be balanced to the specifics of your character development system.
In order to maintain game balance the hardpoint system in mechs would counter some of this, and the specialized character would encourage more team play to make up for the inherent weakness developed by the specialization system.
Character Development idea

Doesn't make much sense, to be honest. What would "+20% to lasers" actually do? Damage and range are determined by weapon type and have nothing to do with skill and aiming is tied to the actual skills of the player.

Well..thats not true..Depending on how much armor your mech had left on it depended on if if fell over or not once it fired..If you got hit in the head you were dead or auto matically got knocked out and fell over. Imagine the force of certain weapons firing the push backwards effect comes in if you lost most of your armor.

The game is based on development of character skills/abilities, not on development of the weapons abilities. The concept I suggested above is targeted towards it. It is by no means complete it is only a snapshot.

I couldn't agree more, the person developing this character could specialize in a set of skills in the same category of recon skills gaining possibly a slightly higher skill in the one category and taking a reduced increase in the other recon based skills each time he levels up.

I get it good suggestion, but does it fit with what is already created?
