I'm seeing a LOT of whining on the forums about kill stealing, but didn't experience any whilst I was playing.
...anymore than usual at least!
Saw quite a bit of sportsmanship I'm happy to say. Pilot's advertising legged/cored enemy to those in need of a kill after they'd scored a kill of their own.

Had a quick look at my shiny new CTF before I quit and it has an odd loadout to say the least.
No engine! Totally empty save for 3ton of LBX-10 ammo!

Is it any faster to get a point if it takes 3 matches, vs if you got one every other match or so?
Problem is, from my perspective, that most people do play it leavy the heavy lifting of actually WINNING the match to someone else. In fact, many times when a team was down several mechs they would just suicide charge.
SMH
Yea, I played this challenge totally in puglandia, where... there were no teams!
The first 10 matches I played as usual, mid-long range, but even typing something in chat was totally useless: never happened that "team" let enemy to go in a wrong position, or let the enemy come out, etc.

It's been crazy, everybody focused to get the kill asap, and nothing more.
So I ended to join the rush and firing whatever was moving, possibly with a red dorito.
The thing most impressed me is that ... it seems to me to have played the same match 85 times, even the map meant nothing!
Ok, close deathball is not my style, but it can be fun. But 85 times....!!!!
Honestly I had much more fun with "To the Victor": the survival factor, although it seemed to be hated by forumes, it gave me a lot of great interesting matches, with players playing better and carefully (according to my tastes, at least. I always want to survive in every match)

A few things strike me about these challenges:
- Challenges that focus on personal performance (i.e. "get X kills") tend to have many folks desperate to make the cut. This results in a lot of the complaints we see on the forums about unsportsmanlike behavior.
- Challenges that focus on team performance (i.e. "get X wins") end up with folks complaining about garbage teams on the forums and a lot of "idiot team" messages in chat.
Both types are legitimate complaints in their own way. Will any challenge be perfect? No. It seems like this time around the goal was to strike a balance between the two. A reasonable personal performance requirement combined with an incentive for teamplay. Much better than previous challenges in my opinion, with my only criticism being that given the high number of points, it might have been better served by being a week long challenge. That would remove the stress on people needing to get X amount of points and might mitigate some of the bad behavior we've seen.

Finally got it, the mech was worth it though, I can't wait to try different builds with it.

Odd, wheat you describe as playing better, I usually would say was being cowardly. Run in, get a kill, then hide in the back hoping someone else would win the match for them.
Again, basically the same plague, just in a different format. People so focused on the "mechanics" of the tourney that they cost themselves more matches than if they had simply played normal and cooperated with each other. Because the majority of matches I was in people would have their kill and assist, or whatnot (don't remember the exact formula) then go hide in the back and MAYBE snipe, and then die. Because the whole team was doing it, and so on. Can't tell you how frustrating it was to be constantly doing 3-5 kills, trying to carry the team to a win (because hey, if you lose, chances are...you are dead!!!)
Just play to win the stupid game. Yes sometimes you will not get your kill/assist. Sometimes people won't survive.
But you WILL do both a lot quicker and a lot less frustratingly, then the other way around. So many people, so short sighted, so focused on quantity and let others do the heavy lifting.
What's most sad, is this attitude seems to be blossoming IRL, too.

Yes, it happened (although not always) and it was weird. Not saying it was the perfect formula, but that I was enjoying more than yesterday, hug festival. Beside, I like to snipe, and never hide. But you know, good team play is rare in puglandia, so yes, I remember that kill and hiding

I found that early on in the challenge game play was better but having to get my last 10 points in the last 10 hours play was much worse. Probably players getting more desperate to get their points.
Played assaults for the majority of the weekend and did not change my play style which was taking it up to the enemy. Certainly found smart players sticking with me and waiting for the kill when I had done a lot of the work.
Amazing how much rear friendly fire I received as the seagulls flew in trying to steal the scraps.
Anyhow there were a few matches where I ended with multiple kills because I realised it was more important to destroy the enemy to ensure a win rather than maiming and leaving the enemy still able to fight back. Some players did not like this but there were times where being in a slow mech did not help in those fast flowing roll me up games.
Still think a good challenge would be earning enough points via kills and assists (with a win) would create better game play.
Cheers
Eboli.

Around 30 games Friday, the last 28 on Saturday.
I decided that playing my locusts was going to make it take too long so I switched it up to the Firestarter-S I've been needing to grind XP with. This challenge took it from no basics to master, so it fulfilled a few purposes I suppose. By the end I switched back to my Locusts and finished mastering 2 of them.
I also got enough c-bills to pick up the Centurion-D and Battlemaster-3S, So I'm happy about that. I already had a CTF-3D, so I sold it and kept the champion.
I'm happy with the tournament. It gave me a reason to grind c-bills other than for the sale.

You know, the Victor is WAY better than the CTF-3D right now. The 3D's day came and went with the pop-tart meta. There is a reason you don't see many of them running anymore... the Ilya does everything better, except for HoverJets™.
Victor came with a super expensive XL350, which cost more than 5.7 million on it's own. That mech cost the equivalent of 16.9 million c-bills to outfit.
Victor-9S(C) Equivalent - 16.9 million c-bills
CTF-3D(C) Equivalent - 14.3 million c-bills - 1.7 million is added simply because the STD280 was bought on top of the XL280
With these two challenges, PGI effectively gave away just over 31 million c-bills per user, if they qualified.
