It's odd, as you hear the Q.Q's go both ways. People that use them complain about how utterly useless they are, and people that get hit by them rage at how OP they are.

People crying over them are typically the noob boaters. They get into a situation where the enemy has ECM, or are behind cover, and they can literally do nothing. What they don't realize is that boating lrms has the same trade off as say, boating AC20's and SRMS. You can't do jack squat until you get within optimal conditions, aka enemy has been spotted/counter ecm, and point blank beside the enemy respectfully.

The trade off with LRM's relative safety of use( i mean come on, you can camp in a hidey hole and just spam fire with no fear of reprisal) is that they are more difficult to use successfully, you trade reliability for utility. While boating them is all good, and I really don't see an issue in it, it limits your number of available roles you can fulfill in combat, and often, your window of activity. When you're going to boat a weapon, you need to look at what it forces your combat role to be. If you jack of all trades for example, you won't run into this issue, but on the other hand, you won't be as useful at specific ranges as other, more dedicated builds.

This goes the other way as well. When you start getting nailed by a hail of Lrms, it can be down right infuriating, I know, but, you have to realize how many obstacles those firing at them had to go through. Get the target spotted, get out of the way of any obstructions that might block missiles, fire said missiles, hold lock until impact, 3~6 seconds. During that time, you could quite easily move behind cover, or get some friendly ECM, and if you can't, well thats how lrms work. You fell into their optimal conditions, so you're going to pay for it.

"What about boaters tho? If i get spotted for 10 seconds and an entire team lights me up, thats bullshit?" No.... not really, more unfortunate than unfair, thats how it goes. If you walked up a ridge and got spotted by 12 snipers, or found a squad of brawlers, you would die just as fast, if not faster.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I had just one last thing to say.

When playing a game, look beyond damage numbers. Look at all of the factors, such as ease of use, reliability, and overall utility of things before you complain about unfair something is.

Probably the same reason people get on the forums and complain about the complainers.

:o

But yeah, people need to make an effort to find how other people deal with LRMs, and what methods other people use to get missiles past ECM and AMS.

The merits of taking Artemis over Tag, or vice versa, or both. What chasis to take narc launcher on, etc.

It's always aggravating to get shot at by someone you can't see or can't shoot back at, and LRMs keep hitting you for longer than gauss rifles, even though they usually end up doing less damage.

CERLLs are even more effective, but you can at least *see* who's shooting you so it isn't as annoying.

Wait - are you complaining about the complaining of the complainers? This is getting meta...

because mom said, stones have no feelings, yet they are the mechwarriors best friend. And even if they may feel cold, they like hugs.
