This question has been bugging me for some time. Will Mech Warrior go on to diffrent plateforms like Xbox and Playstation instead of just staying on the computer?

The Dev Blog 0 delves into this territory slightly. Mechwarrior 5 was an attempt to create a new Mechwarrior game on a Console platform, unfortunately (or fortunately , however to choose to look at it) they could not find anyone interested in backing them.

So ,as of right now and the foreseeable future, PC is the only platform PGI is looking to create for.

Cheers.

It would have to be next-gen consoles...the graphics, for example, could not possibly be ported to PS3 or Xbox360 without some serious work by the devs to dumb it down, creating a major headache. Besides, with over 4k Legendary founders purchased, I don't think there is any doubt that the PC version will be massively successful: no incentive to port.

Consoles aren't badass enough to handle MWO.

Graphics aren't the problem. General audience and controls, are. :)

MechWarrior 5 would have brought more money to the devs in the short term but MechWarrior Online will bring the most fun to the players and possibly more money to the devs but over a longer period of time.

Keep in mind that if MWO does well... This could open the flood gates of new Mechwarrior & Mech Assault games.

okay I see now. Mwo is just the foundation and if it goes well then maybe there might be some considerations. Right?

Essentially. This game got enough following and hype behind it that now there's also a Mechwarrior Tactics Browser game in the works. You should check it out.

If the PS3 would be able to use keyboard and mouse natively, I'd bet it could work.

I think it would be a mistake for the general audience to forsake the impact of the Console Gamer on the pocketbooks of devs and publishers.

Naysayers will always jump and scream and shout about how the lack of buttons and controls, or the uneducated mass of kids playing mechwarrior would ruin the genre, or any other number of excuses.

If a Mechwarrior title was done properly (MechAssault was embarassing in my opinion), then it could mean a major shift in the winds for Piranha, and the future of both the company and the brand.

With some GUI and P2P/Singleplayer/Co-Op programming, coupled with simplified arcade-inspired controls, MWO could very much be an extraordinary console game.

unlikely since most console controllers are quite incapable to steer a mech accurately (just not enough precision and to few buttons), and few consolers will buy a joystick for playing a mech. Its not just random chance that all complex console game have a terrible interface (and this idiotic interface is most of the time copied without any changes to the PC.)

The used graphics engine supports windows and the common consoles; no linux support.

Current console hardware should be able to render the game with few compromizes on performance, hardware is not the problem...

Well if the mechs are controlled by joystick, why not make a controller system design for Mechs for the consel. I know its easier said than done but its an idea.
