Are certain weapons more adept at damaging them then others? If yes, has this been displayed in any of the mechwarrior games?

From what I have heard about the table top game, weapons such as machine guns, LBX-AC's, and LRMs are good for that. Typically speaking, weapons that fire many shots/spread hit area are supposed to be good critical hit fishing tools.

Yeah, you burn the armor off then use multi-hit weapons to score lots of criticals.

Crit fishing: LRM, SRM LBX

Of course stacking MG's and Small lasers work also but that's really just a side feature since they're supposed to be peeling armor at close range if you stack them.

This may very well be something else to consider while fitting your 'Mech.

Yes. Yes it is.

Pssst. Don't put ammo in your legs!

^ None sense, that's where ammo is supposed to go right? Right? A huge tip though, NEVER put ammo in your center torso, you may be tempted to since it tends to have the most armor, but one lucky hit and BOOM, there goes your mech, also don't put ammo in your side torsos without CASE if you have an XL engine. That's just plain suicidal.

Once armor is breached, anything works. There's no trick required.

Spread-shot wepons (like LB-X rounds and SRM's) are very good at critting since they tend to hit multiple locations for each shot fired, each hit giving a crit. An AC 20 will give you one crit if it hits an un-armored spot while a SRM-6 can give you up to 6 eventhough it does less damage,

Buuut . . .

All weapons will crit and none of them will crit unless the armor is destroyed first. Crits in this game aren't simply added damage points - they are damage to specific components (which can make those components stop working, so you start losing guns, slow down, heat up easier, or even just explode if your ammo is hit).

To use MG's or small lasers you would need multples of these weapons and cycle through them so you hit your target with a lot of shots each round.

Pulse lasers - depends on how they work them. TT rules would only allow 1 crit per hit, but in the vidoegames they are depicted as either multiple shots (like an AC) or as a long-duration beam that can be played over the target. Like that it would make some sense that they could give multiple crits per hit.

As long as we don't have the TT games Center Torso Golden BB... The worst design feature of Battletech.. The only place on a mech you could score an internal hit before destroying all the armor in the section was the most heavily armored part of the mech.. Was just plane and simply stupid

Heh, I always enjoyed that in TT. Most of the games I played we had house rules that allowed AC's to penetrate armor and make crits - makes the game really lethal, really fast. More like modern combat than the epic slugfests of the official rules. And it just *wrecks* vehicles.

Oh if it was every section that would be fine.. I did that in games I ran at COns in New England back from 90-95 when I was also doing a few Solaris tourneys for FASA.. I did a 5% chance that ANY hit might do a crit... But to only CT drove me nuts.... Mainly because a CT crit was not just annoying like a bad Actuator could be:) it usually ended in sudden death
