Community Warfare is still in its infancy, but one of the ideas that keeps coming up in my mind is the idea of Faction Exclusive Mechs, reserved only for some of the highest ranks of a Faction.

For example,

Top Ranking Kurita Pilots are given exclusive access to the Hatamoto Chi

Top Ranking Davion Pilots are given exclusive access to the Rakshasa (in 3055), or perhaps a prototype variant.

Switching factions would remove the pilots ability to use the mechs in Community Warfare, maybe entirely to prevent players from joining a faction for the mech and switching sides.

I think this could be a really awesome reward for players loyal to a House.

Nifty idea, and I like it. But I can already hear the OP/UP argument threads brewing in the distance.

I've had the same idea and I think it's been proposed before. House Kurita seems to have a lot more House-specific mechs than other Houses though, and it's pretty hard to come up with a good alternative for every house in 3050.

And of course, PGI would never do this, because there's no way they'll introduce mechs that can't be bought with hard cash. Which sort of removes the point, in my mind, because you'd never know what people earned the elite mechs and what people bought them.

It might be a better idea for PGI to make specific variants available for people with rank 15-20, like the Raven 1X or whatever. Another option would be to do models with custom geometry, like an AS7-RS(S) for Steiner, or a DRG-1N(K) for Kurita. Give the Kurita mech a samurai sword and the Steiner mech a big mug of beer. Or something less silly than that.

Another possibility is seeing different quirks on exact same mech based on what faction you are in. Or even introducing faction weapons each with specific quirks.

It takes a lot of development resources to make these mechs, they can't just make reward mechs that would give no chance to return any of the invested time and money.

What about mechs with exclusive skins? Kinda like founder or phoenix mechs. Ofc it would have to be for a few select mechs for that faction, like a Steiner Atlas skin or Hunchback. A Liao Cataphract maybe?

something like that.

Why couldn't the faction specific variant just be a reskinned Phoenix Pack variant of some sort?

It would have a Loyalty bonus for that specific faction, instead of a faction-wide bonus. It doesn't need much else for a bonus (well, a lesser hero bonus would be great, but not necessary).

I mean... having the Phoenix Pack be the only source of Loyalty point bonuses for ONLY IS factions seems kinda weird.

Instead of wasting resources on exclusive mechs (which means less people will buy them, which means less profit for PGI), the faction reward should be exclusive variant instead. For example, only Kuritans can have access to a certain Hatamoto-Chi variant, while all IS faction players can play the actual chassis.

Yeah I agree. Of course the Kurita-only version should have ECM. Because, you know, reasons.

See faction specific mechs are a problem, because the best one will be the faction people wanna play. people won't form loyalty to any faction, they will just pick the ones they want to use. Its just easier to give a XP, C-bill, and some other boosts for using a mech that belongs to a specific faction.

While that sounds cool... balance considerations are at play and would be problematic.
