Mercenary Event - Update 2

Seriously?? You are being punished for practically carrying a match?
Another example is from a friend of mine. She loves the brawler Atlas and took it out in a solo queue match, taking enemy fire tanking and defending against push being the first focus of course dealing 1 kill, 2 assists and 702 damage, WRECKING enemy mechs. How is this rewarded? By a score of 97. Really encouraging, PGI.
The formula to calculate score is just BAD and I hope this will be changed during this tournament or in the future. And when MC is involved, people WILL exploit the formula.

The previous event could have been harder (not even that much), but at least it promoted some real teamwork and thninking, and matches were way funnier.
Now every match is just crap."
Funnily enough i felt the same the previous event, i saw folks running with suicide laser vomit and SRM builds to get 1 kill and then leave as only getting a kill and hopefully a win matters. It was faster to suicide with a 6 SRM storm crows than it is in the current event.
i saw guys with 4-10 assists and 400 -600 damage but get NOTHING from the last event. I got multiple kills and assists and 600-800 damage but the PUG lost so i got 0 out of the match. So yeah i may not like this current challenge but it is a lot better than the last one.

sry but those were mostly kill steals if you manage 5 kills with this amount of damage. considering what damage the other teamates, especially he TBR did. So you were not as good as you thought. YOu make it look more work that your result actually was. Yet the other kingcrabs having done only such a low amount of dmg by scratching other mechs are more of an issue, they did not much work, still get rewards. So in fact off is only the way how in comparison some are rewarded and others not. but just making 7kills with 100dmg is not worth making 8 assists with 700 damage. because he just could nto finish by a killstealer.
Any of the system, even kills = assits has its flaws and edge cases.
I never said I was good.
None of those kills were 'steals'. They were the last 5 enemy mechs left on their team, versus my lone King Crab.
Three of them were heavily damaged, but 2 of them weren't, and counted as solo kills.
The problem is, if I'd scored 0 kills and 7 assists, I would have made a point in this event. But because I made 5 kills and 2 assists, I didn't.

If you get X Kills by default, because you carried hard, then you automatically qualify for a point. But the first formula still stands for someone who doesn't.
Cool?

2 or 3 kills would be fine, but it'd just be simpler to give 20 points for kills, the same amount as assists.
That way people just wouldn't worry about scoring kills or not; I'm seeing a lot of players ignore crippled enemy mechs in the hope that someone else will finish them off.

But now I'm getting terrible matches that end in horrible stomps. I've had a string of 20 horrible games, with maybe one or two decent games in the middle, usually a stomp from the opposite side. Is it just the increased player population? I get stuck with clueless players who run in all directions, don't know how to torso twist, and run straight into the enemy, dying within the first 2 minutes.
That, or I get stuck with DCs. Surely there is a better way?

ELO MM needs to be removed to give everyone a fair chance. That my only thought on this.
Else grind grind against an MM wants you to lose due to your positive win loss ratio.

The formula to calculate score is just BAD and I hope this will be changed during this tournament or in the future. And when MC is involved, people WILL exploit the formula.
On the other hand it encourages more teamwork, less selfishness (wanting highest dmg/kill) and disarming.
Ofc, it's more efficient to kill a target fast, but you can easily shift your fire towards a side to disarm instead of kill or just switch with team members more on the battle line so everyone gets kills and assists.
I'm just saying that it's hardly difficult to work with the formular if you get half your team to do the same as you do.
The average pilot can get 4-6 assists, but most of the time not more than 1-2 kills or high damage.
The formular helps all players, but is easier for the average player. Skilled players should be experienced enough to just adapt to this simple formular and just kill a bit slower.
These would be all 130point games:
2 kills, 3 assists, 750dmg
2 kills, 4 assists, 450dmg
1 kills, 5 assists, 300dmg
0 kills, 6 assists, 150 dmg

As someone who plays a couple hours nearly every day, for more than 2 year, after 2 nights of nothing but frustration I went and played something else. ANYTHING ELSE.
I should probably thank PGI for giving me a chance to look at the hundreds of unplayed games in my Steam Library.
If they want to do this in future can they please make a "non-tournament" queue where people actually play the game properly and I don't get the urge to TK every 30 seconds...

However the games that were bad were apocalyptically bad some of the stuff I've seen.

I played 35-40 matches last night. Out of those, I rate the quality of at least 30 of those matches as very poor. Usually this is because new and less skilled players are being put into the meat grinder.
I've never seen so many Lords and high end players in the solo queue as I saw last night. I'd be paired up with a team of people with no unit tag, no faction, and several running obvious trial builds, then have a clan deathball backed up my Firestarter spam wreck half the team in record time. There is NO way I'm anywhere near good enough to have influenced the matchmaker to assemble matches this poor.
I'm a stat junkie, and have kept track of my c-bill income, wins/losses and income over time. Before the MC event and Clan Wave 1 Sale, my W/L ratio was 1.28. I'd often have matches give me 300, 400, 500 and even 600k+ c-bill games, running an average of 260k after wins and losses were accounted for.
During this event, I'm up to 1.6+ W/L, climbing KDR, (almost over 2.0 now) but closer to only 180k per match, even with premium time and c-bill boosted heroes. It's insane. 12-0, 0-12, several similarly bad games in a row. I don't even have time to get kills or assists because the team either gets stomped in record time, or stomps us back.
I'm currently blaming my randomly lucky 2:1 win/loss ratio I magically had in my 45 games Tuesday. I think it slipped me into some sort of limbo that is skating me back and forth between an overpowered team, and a team of new players and very-casuals.

But maybee it helps to rise the low number of players in the long run because the freeplayers get a "real cash reward".
And to be honest, i didnt liked the last events either because it was to much of a grind und a very unpleasent gamplay for ME.
So there wil be more good and more bad events in the future but events are better than no events because of the very limited contend (what the game is missing very strongly).

Otherwise, just use match score. The events that use only match score as an indicator so far have been pretty alright

Yes, I agree with this statement.
Matchscore as reward indicator propably creates the best gameplay in a challange.

I'm up to 27 million, and figure as long as I grind 6 million today and Friday, I'll be in good shape. At this point the MC rewards are just a plus. I've managed to qualify for 47 of them.

I'm in the same boat. I've resorted to playing with LRMs just because my usual pulse builds kill too fast, causing minimal damage and getting no assists. That, and I usually earn more by running TAG+LRMs.
Nothing like a challenge to make you resort to farming assists.
