I know this is a game but it's really dumb when someone gets their rocks off knowing they are screwing with a team. About 1 in 10-15 matches, there's always a griefer on my team. I ask the team to report them and maybe they do or they don't but what good is it?

They just make up a free account, use a trial mech, get their account banned and then just turn around and make a new account again. So, banning griefer accounts is all but worthless.

I say, to log into the game you need a valid IP address that is linked to your account. If your IP address shifts every 5 minutes, you know they're using a ghost address. And if they grief you, then you can ban their IP address and they can't make any more account. Is this too hard to put into the game? I have seen many other forums/games ban IP addresses.

Internets and IP adressess are hard? Do you even know how this works? Ban IP, ban IP, ban IP, ban all 4.3 billion of the legit IPv4 adresses, and I will be back in seconds with a diff addy.

Take a class, learn and then LTP

Griefers are the people at the start of the game that wait a second for you to walk past them so they can Alpha strike you in the rear center torso. Usually, even after people turn around to kill him before he kills you, you get negative XP and c-bills plus then you're down one mech AND either have 1 or 2 people dead or severely crippled too. They usually take a Timberwolf or a Nova to do it since they have huge alpha strike ability.

I highly, HIGHLY, doubt that the vast majority of these people are actually doing this on purpose.

First off, a lot of newer players don't even realize that there is Friendly Fire in this game and do it without realizing that it causes damage. Apart from that, this happens all the time when people's fingers slip, or if they're Alt-Tabbing between windows and it fires by accident, or they're trying to set up weapon groupings and accidentally hit \ when they mean to hit Backspace (backspace is the Chain Fire toggle, \ is Alpha Strike).

In short, try to cut 'em some slack and see if they apologize before you just TK them. And also keep in mind that if you DO TK them, YOU are actually the one who can be punished for griefing!

just ban their mac address, make them spend money to get back on, a mac address is unique to every network adapter and in most cases unchangeable...ya they can get around it but they will have to buy a new network adapter...it can really be a nightmare if the network adapter is built on the motherboard lol....you would notice a stiff decrease in grievers for sure lmao

I said in MOST cases...I can personally change my MAC on the fly, I have a MSI gaming mobo and it supports mac address switching...but the vast majority do not...it would put a giant rusty nail in it

Then why would you even suggest a MAC ban?

because spoofing a mac ban can have dire personal consequences, for starters in the new age of hacktivism all ISP's log and track MAC addresses and changes in regards to a specific account. You may get past a game ban but you might trigger a federal investigation on yourself as ISP were ordered federally to hand over MAC addresses and any changes I have even been denied a connection and had to jump through hoops on my ISP just from switching adapters. That being said it would force a said person to either stop grieving or risk being put under a federal microscope...something I deem not worth it personally. Let's face it....if spoofing a MAC address just to be a online irritant cost you say...your freedom while you are investigated...you may think twice about doing it more than once :)

Except I've changed MAC addresses several times for various reasons and that has literally happened none times.

A lot of investigation go through interpol and happen without your knowledge or consent, if you notice a lot of lag online, do a quick traceroute...if it bounces off of interpol..well..then you are being watched...if not..you got lucky...the real question..is it worth the risk?

I agree more could be done potentially in theory but I love how this thread was posted by a guy calling himself the Scum of the Earth... the irony.

Actually, it's one of my favorite Rob Zombie songs and way back when, I would play it loudly while I played MW 3ish/4ish... So, that's why whenever I play Battletech/MW, I use it as my call sign... =)
