Exactly as the title says:

1) Are they forever? I mean, when u apply them to a mech, do you have it in that mech till u change the camo back to basic or to other one? Or are they simply for a battle?

2) Do you get it for the variant? In case u own more than one of a same variant mech.

I seem to not be able to actually find direct answers to these question.

Thanks in advance for any feedback :)

I have never used a one shot camo, if I understand correctly, the one use camo is added onto the mech until you change it, then it is lost. if you have a camo that you really like and feel you would never change you could do this.

Well, from my own experience...
1.) They are permanent until you change them. The difference I found out with doing "unlock" is that "unlock" only applies to one chassis, not your whole collection. What unlocking a pattern does is if you switch to a different camo pattern, you don't have to pay again when you want to go back to it. Now, the one thing I don't know is if changing the colors ALSO resets the one shot pattern. I am curious to know that myself.

2.) No, if you buy a "one shot" it's for that mech only, no other chassis.

I know what you mean. I had to unfortunately discover this the hard way myself. A GM did make it all good in the end but I was rather bummed out that unlocking a pattern didn't make it for every mech I had. It was explained to me that a permanent unlock of a pattern would cost HUGE amounts that the average player would never want to pay it. So, when I have a mech that I like and know that I am going to keep, I do a lot of shopping around first to make sure I'm happy with the pattern and colors. Then, it only costs me 1/10 of the price to unlock it. It's the colors though that can be pricy but unlike the camo patterns, buying them is permanently unlocked for all of your mechs.

1) It stays 'forever' up until you change the cammo.

2) It only stays on 1 variant. Normally if you only got 3 variants or less, getting the one shot would be cheaper for the 3 or less mechs, however if the perma cammo is on sale or you got more then 3, it starts to look like the perma is better.

It depends how many alt.configs / variants you got of that mech and if you like swapping a lot.

1) Permanent until changed (you can change colors, you cannot change the camo pattern itself without losing it) or the mech itself is sold.

2) It is variant specific.
An unlocked pattern is for all variants of the chassis (mech) with unlimited ability to change to and from the pattern.
A one-shot is tied only to one variant, so long as you own the variant and do not change the pattern.

To be utterly pedantic, it is tied to a particular mech, not variant. I have two CDA-3Ms. One has Bucc, one Crusader, both one-shots.

I only buy one-shot with the free MC I've earned.

It's really a terrible scheme that makes people prefer to stick with one camo on every map. Planetside 2 went away from the one shot camos long ago because when you switch maps you naturally want to change your camo to suit. This game needs that kind of ability, but it can't until it gets rid of these and adjusts the pricing of camo accordingly.

From what I've gathered, its absolutely pointless to do the unlock unless you want to keep changing the pattern on the mech (which seems pointless, just pick the best looking and stick with it).
Even with the camo on sale, its still cost inefficient to buy the unlock vs just buying 3 one-shots for all 3 variants.
Standard unlock is 750, one shot is 75
so you would need to have 10 mech variants (which isn't even possible) to make it worth doing the unlock.
Am I missing something or is this just a really bad deal?
