I've got the Jester, Firebrand, Ilya and Protector and enjoy playing all of them. I've done more rounds in the Jester than any of the others and always seem to do plenty damage with it using 3 ERLL and 3ML. I haven't used the Ilya much recently but still love it. My Firebrand has 4 LPL and 2MPL and I was surprised how good it works with that loadout. Kills stuff pretty quickly. I like brawling in the Protector using the AC20 with backup lasers. So in summary, I think that you'd be impressed whichever one you got.

This is highly subjective of course:
  • Protector: The only reason i haven't sold this crate is because it's a hero. I can't make this thing work for my life. Admittedly; i was bad in the Atlas; and the Orion is a smaller, weaker version of the Atlas; so no surprise there. If only i could remember why i bought it...
  • Ilya: very solid mech; never disappoints; lots of loadout options. The only thing that grinds my gears are the low-slung ape arms; they look cool but make a lot of your firepower disappear in the cover before you. You'll have to expose yourself the get the most out of this one.
  • Flame: You mentioned speeds around 64 km/h; so maybe this one isn't your cup of tea; and maybe you should try out other dragons first; but i enjoyed this thing over a long period of time. Originally my build hat an XL340 and 4xMLas /1x LB-10X, but this lacked sorely in firepower in the current situation. This works okay for me now.
You're still pretty fast, heat management is easy on you; the LB-10X works nice on open components and makes the enemy keep his head down (enough ammo to waste a few shots), and the MPLas takes care of the armor.
Since it's a dragon; avoid facetime like the plague; be ready to pull out when things go south and fight as dirty as you can ;). To be honest; this has seen less action since the 1N got its quirks. Still recommended; but making Dragons work can be challenging. :)

Timber Wolf Prime (Invasion) with 30% C-Bill boost. You can still get it and 2 other Timmys from the Clan Invasion a la carte for $55. I'd take that instead of other hero mechs for money grinding purposes.

Protector: one of the best close-range brawlers in the game. Big ballistic, plenty of missile hardpoints, a relatively narrow center torso from the front. It can take and give a lot of damage inside 300 meters. It can also be serviceable in other roles, if you want it to. But its ability as a brawler outshines any of its other setups.

Ilya Muromets: I can't help but feel like the Cataphract-4X (for maximum facetime damage) and Jagermech-DD (for actually being able to shoot without eating return fire) do autocannons as well or better than the Ilya. And while the Ilya is a flexible 'Mech that can take almost any combination of big ballistics with energy backup, the other Cataphracts can, too. With better quirks and no cash down. I don't know; some people love it, and for a long time it had a reputation as the best hero in the game. But it doesn't thrill me.

Firebrand: It can run any of the good loadouts you can do with other Jagermechs (except 3 Ultra-5s), and it can run several good loadouts that no other Jager can. The only thing it can't really do well is brawl.

Jester: Almost always run as a laserboat with a big XL engine. Nimble, jumps, zorches. Funky camo scheme. It's a 'Mech with a lot of character. If the specific thing it does appeals to you, you'll enjoy it. If you don't want to do that, don't get it.

Those are the four I'd choose from. Dragons and Quickdraws are for eccentrics.

Love my Firebrand, I usually run it a bit unconventionally, and use it as a laser boat...and love it. You stay back with two erlarge lasers at the start of a round, weaken some armor, then get into the thick of things mid match with 4 medium lasers. It can actually brawl more than people think if you use side torsos for shields.

With this load out, you run a standard 300 engine i believe, its around 300... or so, you end up running 87.7 mph, which is great (post speed tweak)...it's a pretty nimble mech in this setup.

Well you got the Ilya, Jester, Firebrand,
none of the others is really worth it.

Ilya can be devistating. 5 UAC 5s and 3 MLs will rip assaults to shreds.
Firebrand is basically just a better Catapult K2.
Jester is not so much worth it at this point. Its good, but the other two out class it.

You forgot the Orion Protector, which to me is the best heavy hero.

I'll post this in the order that I'm personally best with

-Ilya Muromets - Daul Gauss
-Jester - 4 Large Laser
-IV4 - Single Gauss/Single LPL

The ilya takes the cake in my collection. I still like the other two, only get heroes of the chassis you like to start with.

Jester is always really fun and the Ilya can be a beast. Had good game with the Protector but I don't really like it that much anymore. The Flame would be my recommendation (4xMlas + Gauss) but its a Dragon and that comes with a whole set of issues.

Ilya: Runs 3x UAC/5 + 3x ml like a beast. This builds is really fun for the sheer dakka but the hard points are better suited on the Firebrand.

Firebrand: 2x AC/5 + 6x ml is a killer build for this mech. It's a bit slower than the Ilya, but the ridge humping hard points are better.

Jester: 2 erLL + 4 ml is the quirked build but using the JJ I enjoy 2 PPC + 4 ml.

Ilya feels the strongest. Firebrand feels like the one with the highest survivability w/ a std engine, and the Jester I think is the most fun to play even if it's not the strongest.

In terms of a farming machine you just have the choice of Ilya, no other hero comes close. Just put 2xGauss and 3xML on it or any kind of weird 3xBallistic build and call it a day.

If you want something for "fun", this opens the field to the other three, Jester, Firebrand, Protector - for me in this order.

I couldn't agree more about the Ilya. I've carried many a team on the back of that deadly combo. It also has plenty of ammo in case the match last a while. 71.3kph isn't bad for what is effectively a mini-assault. Here's the build for those interested.

2xGauss, 3xML Ilya

I also bought the Jester, and find it to be, "okay." It currently has my worst KDR for some odd reason. I always seem to get terrible matches when I run it.
